Does your state require a photo ID to vote?

I just voted and it seemed just wrong not to show some proof of who I was. All I had to do was fill out a short form and sign it, wait for them to get me a ballot, and then turn it in when I was finished.

I need my ID to get on a plane, get on base (retired spouse) and to provide verification for cashing checks. With all of the fraud going on it seems strange that anyone could walk in and pretend to be someone else.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe that any state is allowed to require it.

I'm pretty sure we have to. I know, a lot of people compare it to a poll tax though because supposedly poor people can't afford the $15 (or whatever) it costs to get an ID.

Call me insensitive, but I think they should be required.

I've always been asked for ID. I'm not sure if that is the only form of idenification they accept though because I do believe it's considered a poll tax because there is a fee involved in getting a state issued ID.

No, photo ID is not required in Ohio.

You don't have to here. You just sign your name in the big book of registered voters, they compare it to the sig they have on file from when you 1st registered, and that's it.

No ID required in Missouri.
I should edit that. No photo ID required in Missouri. You do have to show some form of ID.
You can use a utility bill, a paycheck stub, a government check stub, a school issued ID, etc.
But no driver's license/photo ID is required.

I think I've shown ID in Florida...can't remember. I vote absentee and so I don't show ID.

No ID is required here. It's a good thing since "I lost my ID in a flood."

We have to show a voter registration card. No photo ID.

I think they said on the news tonight that only 2 or 3 states require a photo id to vote. I'm glad they don't require it in Maryland. My 85 year old Mom doesn't have one and I want her to vote in this historic election.

You need a photo id here, but not a match. The problem with the "match" id is that the id address has to match your registration address. Ids are good for 8 years here. Typically, lots of people dont renew there drivers license just because they move. Especially young people who got their license at 16 may have moved several times (college, 1st apartment, back home). They can be prevented from voting in "match" states.

Same here.
It's used as a form of ID for almost anywhere, yet I can walk in the Voters Registration office and get a new card, change my address, my party affiliation with NO photo I.D.

It kills me the DMV wouldn't accept any of my stuff to change my address but said a voter's registration card would work... and the voters registration people didn't even ID me to change my address on file. :headache:

Also, ID's are only $5 here. I also believe they have a program for free ID's for low-income families. I know they're a LOT higher in other states!

Indiana will be in its second election where photo ID is required. I believe you can now get a photo ID for free at license branches.

I am amazed at people who complain about this. I got a post card from my old city five years after I had moved, and always voted in my new city, that my name would be purged from the old city's list. I am assuming anyone could have voted for me those five years.:confused3

My 88 year old grandma is in a retirement center, and I know they have been given a lot of help and reminders on how to get photo I.D.s.

In NC, I had to give my name and address. I don't think that's enough. Many other people know that and could go and vote in my name. I think you should have some proof it's you, whether it's a photo id or a voter registration card.

I think voter's registration cards should BE photo ID's! :thumbsup2
