Here's a big tip which I hope will save some of you some pain:

If you do not have your passport or Driver's License, you will not be admitted to Downtown Disney regardless of the fact that you really are 27 and look it.

They do NOT accept Photo Health Cards as valid photo ID. Yes, that thing that almost every Ontario resident has to go to the hospital and doctor...

Learned the hard way... and after speaking with management about the situation, they were not willing to help us either.

Pardon us for living downtown in Toronto and not needing driver's licenses!

You mean Pleasure Island -- don't you? Downtown Disney is the complex that includes Marketplace, Pleasure Island and West Side. No photo ID is required to get into the Marketplace or West Side. It's a good idea to carry some form of photo identification with you -- even if that means carrying your passport with you.

The Downtown Disney map carrying a notice that warns of the need for valid photo ID to enter the nightclubs at Pleasure Island.

As for Health Cards, they are not even considered valid photo identification in Ontario. You only need to try using it at the LCBO to find that one out. The Ministry of Health doesn't even accept the Health Card as a form of photo ID -- just try using one as proof of ID when visiting a Ministry of Health office anywhere.

Yes - Pleasure Island - the one with the nightclubs.

We don't carry passports around the city of Toronto, photo health card has always done us fine - even at LCBO or bars or nightclubs here. They might not be allowed to accept it, but we've never been turned away by using it.

I was advised about 4 years ago to get a BYID card from the LCBO but because I do not have any problems, I never bothered. wonder if they would accept that at Pleasure Island?

I think the Health Card isn't accepted as a form of ID because of privacy issues... that's for Ontario anyway. I've never tried it before because I always carry my driver's license together with me.

Do they really ask everyone for ID??? DW and I haven't been mistaken for teenagers for a looooong time. It seems to have gotten worse since the kids came along. I may be able to hide the grey with a buzz cut, but the wrinkles are anothers story! :charac2:

Well, we're in our late 20's and definitely do not look like teens or even 20 years olds for that matter! I was mistaken as 35 at work by someone my own age!
So there we were in Downtown Disney, we had travelled without a passport because we don't have one / need them to get over the border and no DL's because we've never had them or needed them here (downtown Toronto brats!) and just assumed that because everywhere here has accepted our photo health card that they would too... Airport officials did!
This was the first time in my 8 years of being legal I got shot down. Total damper for both of us.
Just thought I would pass the tip along...
...and yes, even if bars and and nightclubs and whomever are not supposed to accept the photo health card as a form of ID here in Ontario, they do.
I filled out a passport application last week too just to be covered in the future...
Next time you get ID'ed going to a bar or at a restaurant, give your health card as photo ID and see what they say. Chances are good you'll get served.

photo health card - only Photo ID we had.

Does anyone know if there are any places in pleasure island where you only need to be 18 to get in, or are they all 21? I read somewhere that if you are 18 you can get in but they stick a bracelet or something on you so you can't drink. Anyone know if this is true?

I turn 50 on Friday. I have 2 kids (ages 24 and 19) and have the grey hair to prove it. We were at PI last week and went to the Comedy Warehouse. We were asked for photo ID, not to prove we were over 21, but to prove that the resort ID we were using belonged to us. There were lots of "older" people in line that didn't have photo ID to support their resort ID's and they were turned away.

I know alot of places say "we ID anyone under 35". It's a standard at touristy places I beleive in the US.

The most current Pleasure Island club age restrictions as listed under the
"Separate Admission to Pleasure Island" paragraph on the back of
the "Downtown Disney Times Guide & New Information" flyer for
February 6-12, 2005. Club Motion: 18 years or older on all days;
Mannequins Dance Palace: 18 years or older on Sunday-Wednesday
and 21 years or older on Thursday-Saturday; BET SoundStage Club:
21 years or older on Thursday-Saturday (no age restrictions
listed for Sunday-Wednesday).
A cast member at the Comedy Warehouse told us that in the past PI has made the whole venue 21 or older for Spring Break weeks to make it easier for staff to handle the influx of students. He also said that extra staff are hired to handle the crowds. Spring break in the US starts soon and goes for several weeks as each state may have a different week. There were already spring break t-shirts on sale at Planet Hollywood when we were there last week.

Thanks, my sister will be pleased to know she isn't stopping the rest of us from doing something we want to do!!! (she'll just be 18 when we go).

You should know that Ontario Health Cards cannot be lawfully used to establish ID. (Provincial Law). Some places might accept them as secondary ID and places that aren't using them for establishing any legal obligation of identity (i.e. a marriage license) may accept them as ID, but they aren't legal ID.

You probably won't even be able to get a replacement Health Card now without some other form of photo ID.
