Could somebody please recommend an inexpensive, easy-to-use, pretty self-explanatory photo editing software? I have Photoshop Elements, but that is too convoluted for the need.
 
picasa! It's free (google app), and for all basic editing it works great.

I agree, Picasa is great if you just want a quick crop or a color boost and you can't argue with free.

Re Elements - not sure if you know how to use Elements but just don't want to deal with it for some quick editing or if you have Elements and don't use it at all because it's too convoluted. If it's the latter, I found it very user unfriendly until I viewed the tutorials on lynda.com. It made a big difference for me and they have a free 10 day trial... So much better than the hit or miss videos on youtube.
