Photo Contest voting proposal

I always wondered about the amount of hits on the different threads too. Along with the number of votes cast in each thread. Maybe we need to have Dr Phil examine the voting patters of DIS'ers.

Anyway. I like the way the contest has been run. I also say don't make extra work for yourself and keep them in the order the were submitted.

As for which specific images should make it to the final pole... I like the idea that the top 10-12 vote getters should make it. This way it might not matter when you submitted your photo.

As others have said, THANK YOU very much for keeping the contest going. This is one of the best parts of the DIS Photograph board.

Do you post the link to the contests on other Boards? One thing I've found is that there are a lot of members that don't know the Photo Board exists. If you do great. If not and find you don't always have the time, I can throw a post or 2 on some other boards to generate more voting interest. I can't do it every week, but I'll be happy to do it when I can.

I think being able to see at least a thumbnail of all or nearly all entries at once would make voting much easier. I have no problem with using an external website to do it, linked from here, with the initial entries posted here as always.

I don't need thumbnails. I ignore the pictures and just vote for the people I like. That's why I don't vote very often.

It would help to identify which pics were taken with Canons and which pics I should ignore.

i like the number idea as well...just to keep me honest, i do try to ignore the names till i look at them all but then that is more scrolling...and about the thumbnails i meant just on the vote section so i could remember the photo, not instead of the whole big photo

I think the way everything is handled for the contest is good; the only thing I would recommend is hiding the name of the contestant. It would definitely remove voting based on reputation instead of the merits of the photo (as someone said in an earlier post).

hmmmm as I recall you seem to have more camera/lens problems than those of us using other brands,,, that says a lot about Canon...

and actually Canon is having serious focus issues with their pro camera, and they are trying real hard to cover that up...

I mentioned this before ages ago and was kinda shot down but I'd really much prefer if the photos were posted without a running commentary or an explanation. Just the photo. If it fits the category it doesn't need an explanation

I'd like to thank you for running these contests! I really enjoy everyone's photos, even though I don't always participate.

I do have one question, probably a stupid one. What are we actually voting on?
How well we like the photo? How well it ties in with the weekly theme? How well the photo was taken or how cute the subject is? lol I really am not sure.

I'm not thanking anyone for running these contests. So what if you put in hours of work every week. So what if you have to put up with people whining about how the contest is structured. So what if you have to suffer through diatribes about what constitutes unfair editing. Isn't that what our subscription fees pay for?

If you want thanks, incorporate all the good suggestions that people have presented here. Obviously, you can ignore the stupid ones. Just fix it so that we all win more often. Now, quit complaining and get back to work. I expect results.
