Fly by Night. The airport rotating beacon next to a display of an old BOMARC Interceptor. Not quite night, but dark enough that it had to be on

The Coast is clear
This aircraft was initially responsible for watching the skies off both coasts of the United States to make sure they stayed clear. I worked on them in 1967 - 1982, and they were retired in 1978, and replaced by AWACS.

For those interested, these pictures (and many more) were taken at the Peterson Air Force Base Museum, in Colorado Springs, CO. the museum URL is http://www.petemuseum.org/. I volunteer there. Come out and see us! Instructions for visitors are on the web site.

Magnum Opus

Last week, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd was in town. He brought his Magnum Opus....The Wall....and I had the pleasure of going to catch the production.

I tried to take the dSLR into the arena...but sadly, it was considered a professional camera and I had to check it into storage rather than being able to take it inside.

Wish I had taken a small point and shoot for backup; instead...I had to take these from my old smart phone with the crappy camera. So, apologies for the quality.

I was at work this morning and saw this most beautiful sunrise - and immediately thought - "Every cloud has a silver lining" - or in this case probably golden!!
003-1.jpg

Alas I only had my point and shoot camera with me, but at least I was able to capture something..!!

I'm a bit late but thought I would try some

Down to the wire A day at the races in Bahrain had a rather unique opportunity to shadow a photographer and this is one shot I got.

Eat, drink and be merry
This kind of surprised me when I got to the track. I had never seen a concession stand quiet like this one and I had to grab a few photos of it.

It takes two to tango In this case the carriage drivers and the horses. It would have been bad if they hadn't been working in harmony.

Raining cats and dogs This filly not only was a beauty but a complete and total ham. She loved posing for the camera while watching the rain.

Rome wasn’t built in a day Refers to this old guy's career. He raced to the ripe old age of nine and still managed to put in a close second place finish in a big race.

Spitting Image
The person who made this statue did a great job recreating the real John Henry who I had the chance to see in person.

You can’t win them all
Unfortunately true. For three glorious years this mare reigned over the western tracks winning nineteen straight races. She was not only a champion she was an entertainer, she "danced" before each race. And made a whole generation of kids fall in love. In her final start of her career, in a move that many consider one of the most brilliant runs she ever put in, she came from twenty lengths back to lose by a little over a nose.

Graveyard Shift This weekend, I decided to pull in a graveyard shift for this scav hunt. This time, I headed to the Melbourne Cemetary. There was a bit of shifting happening there.

Believe it or not....the Elvis Fan Club in Melbourne had this memorial installed at the cemetary! It's been here since 1977.

There's a Sustainability Fair happening in town.

Apple of my Eye

0218MelbScavHunt088.jpg

There's an apple farm in Melbourne that grows all these varieties of apples. They are having an Apple Festival at the end of March. I'm going to try to go, pending weather.

0218MelbScavHunt086.jpg

Penny Saved is a Penny Earned In this case, it's actually $2. The beverage is an organic apple, tea and honey soft drink. If I returned the cup, I got back $2!

0218MelbScavHunt094.jpg

Eat, Drink and be Merry What's a fair in Melbourne without food?

0218MelbScavHunt096.jpg

Life's Not all Beer and Skittles It's a Sustainability Fair....this is organic vegetarian food that I had for lunch. Cooked by the Hare Krishna's. :thumbsup2

I recently got a new camera -- a Canon T2i, with an 18-55mm lens and a 55-200mm lens. I'm thinking that this scavenger hunt just might help me learn to use my new camera. I've never had a DSLR before. I'm having fun with it so far!

Here's The Cat's Meow.
