Photo Assignment: Seasonal: Holiday's 2007

My husband's family owns a Bed & Breakfast near Cincinnati. It a beautiful old Victorian style home...way prettier than my 4 bedroom ranch! Here's a few shots from our visit to them on Christmas Eve.

Would this happen to be outside of the Mason area, north east of Cinci? It looks very much like the B&B my dh and I stayed at when we were house hunting 9 years ago!! If it's not, I need to know where it is - could so use an adult weekend getaway!!!;)

Back in 1990 when our DS17 was just an infant, we took our first trip to Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, WV, to see their Winter Festival of Lights. It turned into a yearly tradition, a mini-getaway weekend, always the first weekend in December. However, this year we had our marching band trip to WDW over that weekend, so Oglebay was canceled. But since it's only 1-1/2 hours away, we drove down Thursday night to see the lights, and we kept the tradition alive.

One of the light displays that greets you as you're approaching Oglebay Resort - to me it almost looks like stained glass:

This is Willard the snowman, named after Willard Scott, the tv weatherman. The Festival of Lights started very small in the Good Zoo that's part of Oglebay, and in 1985 they decided to take it resort-wide, and Willard Scott came to throw the switch and turn the lights on that year.

One of the two drive-thru tunnels:

A series of light displays looks like a Peanuts comic strip - Lucy pulling out the football when Charlie Brown runs up to kick it:

One of my favorites, the poinsettia wreath. This thing is huge!! 75 feet in diameter and the candles are 50 feet tall.

Another favorite of mine:

And since we're on the DIS boards, Cinderella's castle and coach:

Thanks Andy! And the only setting that gives me decent night and low-light shots is good old Sports setting, then I need to run the photos thru Noiseware. I keep trying Night Scene and Night Snapshot, but I just can't get consistently good shots like I do with Sports. Go figure.:confused3

Happy New Year!

Hey, you do what works, right? If that is sports mode, then so be it! It works great.

Happy New Year to you too!

It's technically in Hamilton, I think. I'm not sure of the exact B&B name, but I'm going back next week to shoot some more interiors and the exterior for their new website and thankyou cards. I'll PM you when I have the info. They are really nice people. :)

We buy ornaments on each trip to WDW. This one was on a cruise celebrating DS becoming a citizen.

Great shots! What lens are you using for these shots? Seems like you are able to use f4 for quite a large range of shots. I see at least 17mm and 100mm all at f4. Is this one lens or a couple lenses?

Again, they are great shots. Good Job!

Thank you, I used my dynamic duo of lens for these shots. The Canon 17-40 f4 and Canon 70-200 f4 IS.

Edited because for some reason my pics are not appearing. Will have to investigate........

There we go. Dont know what was wrong. My pics were there one minute then disappeared.
Anyway these were taken two days ago but we had to run for cover because it started to rain heavily. (As you can see on the last one)
