What would you buy phones or walkie talkies for our trip there will be 3 families so to keep in touch what will we use :confused3

Can you buy pay as you go phones over there
we had walkie talkies for our own family worked great in the parks, Broken now ( I tried to charge them up over here ) :rotfl2:
but for 3 different families doing different things to keep in touch I do not think they will work great
we have 2 triband phones from here would we be able to buy sim cards or something

Any info or help
What do you use

Personally I prefer mobiles!!! If you bring your phones from home you can text rather that phone as this will be cheaper my provider charges 25p!!! Next time I plan to buy some pay as you go phones from Walmart they are approx $50 - $60! :teeth:

We use our own tri-band contract phones on an O2 contract. Texting is cheaper than calling as you get charged roaming charges - you pay for the call made to you as well as calls you make which bumps up the cost ridiculously!
Cell phones are widely available, cheaply, from Walmart and many other stores and may well work out cheaper if you want to call rather than text.
Just make sure, if you decide to use your own phones, that you speak to your provider to make sure your phones are unlocked for use abroad (I think it's a safety feature to stop someone pinching your phone and using it abroad)

Yes this is the way i think I will go aswell
most check out the walmart web site should give me a idea

We used to have walkie talkies they were ok, but lots of people had them and sharing freq made it a rather non private conversation. We bought 2 cheap tri band phones from virgin for £19.99 with £10 credit on each phone. It would have been £29.99 if we didn't already have a virgin sim. After this holiday I will not travel anywhere without a mobile. Our Inlaws had a puncture coming from the airport to the hotel. We didn't see it happen and drove on. They had a phone and sent us a text explaining and that it was being sorted out. We were so worried and really glad we had the phones. One side note Dollar were useless, they said they would arrange someone to come out, but it would be at their expense and it would take at least 1 hour. A really nice young couple stopped (american) and changed the wheel for them. My MIL was scared when the car pulled over, but they were really nice and still keep in touch with them via email.

I bought two walkie-talkies from Walmart for $7 each in 2003.

They are good, but like has been said before, people are on the same frequency as you (which can be funny if they are having an arguement).

Signal was good, but faded if your were at opposite ends of a park.

Remember that due to regulations US Wt's can not be used in the Uk and vica-versa.
