Phones and cameras still not allowed on Hulk & Dragon's Challenge?

i remember reading about the new metal detectors at the Hulk and Dragon's Challenge coasters months ago, and all of the negative pushback from guests. But I haven't heard anything since. Is it still the policy that you cannot have phones or cameras on these coasters, even if they are completely secured in a pocket? Is there any way to have a camera and ride without being forced to use lockers? We have always traveled bagless at Universal because we hate using the lockers there, and are upset to think that this now means we cannot take pictures of our day. In my mind, this is the only potentially negative thing relating to our upcoming Universal trip next year.

Anyhow, I'd appreciate an update, if anyone can give one!

Yep, they're still there. You'll need to get lockers no matter what for the coasters. However, you won't need them for pretty much any other ride if you're travelling without bags. I would recommend you bring small plastic bags to put your electronics into while you ride water rides, though.

At RRR they also make sure you don't have anything in hands or pockets.

The lockers aren't that bad at all. It only takes a few minutes to put our camera in the locker. We are bagless people too and it doesn't bother us at all. No need to take anything on these rides at all.

So, if you have a camera and want to ride you'll have to put it in a locker. Same with phones, loose change or keys......they are potential hazards if they fall out.

I second schumigirl... The lockers aren't that bad (really, most of the time I've found them to be a total piece of cake), and it's well worth it to me to stow my items to ensure that they don't fly out and hit someone in the face. Even if you *think* that items are secure in a pocket or whatever, the forces on a coaster can do strange things to dislodge an item that seemed secure. Furthermore, the number of people who *swear* they're going to keep the camera or phone stowed but then actually turn around and take it out on the ride is baffling. I've been on RRR, Dragon Challenge, & Hulk on occasions where they've stopped the ride because someone had a phone out. If this measure keeps those people from holding loose articles during the ride, then, again, it's well worth it to me. :thumbsup2

My child had his brand new phone fall out of his pocket on the Griffon roller coaster on one of the loops. Very lucky it did not hit another person on his train. I can see the danger of loose cell phones!

Lockers are still in effect. You can take plenty of pictures, you just can't use your camera on a couple rides, or while standing in those lines.

Using the lockers...go to the back of the area, because everyone clumps to the front of the lockers. Try to use a screen that's not in the direct sun (the sun seems to mess with things and it makes it hard to read). Use your knuckles on the touchscreen. Remember what finger you used (and whose finger) to set the locker up. When you're done, remember what bank of lockers you used! SO easy.

We did the lockers for rocket ride rand dueling dragons, really didn't added much time and was free. We had fast pass so time was never issues

The lockers really aren't that bad, especially since they're free for the length of your wait and ride time.
I was walking last year and someone's metal watch missed hitting me by centimeters as it fell from a rider on Hulk last year. I'm happy to comply with their safety measures after that!!!

Thanks for the responses. I'm pleased to see everyone saying that the lockers aren't a big deal .We've avoided them for years because people are often complaining about how they don't work, or time time running out early, etc.

So, a locker question... how long are the lockers free? We like to ride some coasters (like the Hulk) multiple times in a row, which is easy to do with unlimited express pass. If we're forced to use a locker, then that would make us even more inclined for re-rides before we moved onto something else.

They are free for a period of time that goes along with the estimated wait standby wait time. You will know how long you have as you rent it.

With re-rides be careful and mindful of time.

But if you are in standby and something happens so you don't get out in time just see an attendant. They are aware of problems with the ride and can override the charges.

And remember to get your stuff after!
Last visit, I forgot my stuff in the Jurassic Park lockers till I was halfway out of IoA.

I would think you could
Probably ride 2 or three times using express pass.

I liked the lockers at Universal. I am always rushing to cram my purse, camera, and water bottle into the tiny pockets on WDW rides. Most of the time they won't fit, and I just have to wrap the stuff around my arms and legs. The only ride it was a pain at was Forbidden Journey, because the area is so small. DH usually takes all of our stuff and goes to the back of the room, where it's empty. We either wait not too far in line for him, if it's taking a while, or he catches up.

Watched today as someone tried to sneak through metal detectors with iphone and was turned away. The process is 2 step: Garret walk through metal dectors, if the red light goes off, you go to step 2 which is Garret hand held detectors.

So I am assuming that one is no longer able to wear an ever-so-fashionable fanny pack onto rides like Hulk or RRR. That was a great solution for me and we have always been able to avoid the lockers with me using a waist pack, but it sounds like I probably need to be prepared to stow it for these two rides.

:goodvibes:

No anymore on these rides.I had to stow mine for both and also Dragon Challenge this past Jan

Look what happened at Cedar Point this past weekend.

A seemingly normal, intelligent man loses items on a roller coaster.

For some unknown reason, he decided it was okay to jump the fence to get his items. He gets struck and killed by the ride.

It's unfortunate occurrences like this that force Universal to have a strict no items policy as they do.

I was ok in Feb. I was able to wear a waist pack on all rides including Dragon Challenge, Hulk and RRR. I even asked Team Members before getting in line and they told me it was fine. But that was before the metal detectors were installed at the rides.

:)
