When we were in the states my husband converted a lot of US phones for people that were returning to the UK but these were analogue phones, it might be a different kettle of fish now the majority are digital.

Most moderns 'phone (ie digital) will work. The lead needs an adapter to connect the US RJ11 connector to the UK BT connector. If the lead unplugs from the 'phone, it my be easier just to get a UK modem lead, as most modems use RJ11 at the PC/modem end.
