will be going end of mar 27-apr3,wondering if this is bug season?also should I buy calling card for payphone at wal-mart in states or here or at truck stop here?also how much u.s $ for a cab to closest wal-mart from on site pop-cent as I was thinking of getting a cooler etc. now that I know there is ice on site instead of renting fridge for $10/day? any other tips? THANKS IN ADVANCE DOUG from K.L

You won't find many bugs there that time of year. A few here and there but nothing serious. Not enough to warrant bug spray I would think.

That cab ride would cost you quite a bit more than the cooler I suspect. I'm not 100% sure on that.

Calling card? Google the word "Pingo" -- it's one of the best that I've ever seen and you can buy right on their website.

Last time I was there.. we used the wastebasket (with plastic liner) filled with ice to keep drinks in the room cold. Dumped the melted water upon return from the parks and refreshed with ice. Did the same in the morning. Drinks were plenty cold all the time.

Worked just fine. Saved us a cab ride and the cost of a cooler.

We were there for 8 days in May (2005) and 11 days in August (2006) and did not have or need bug spray at all. Last August I bought a PC phone card at Loblaws for 5.00 and called back to Canada almost every day to talk with one daughter who didn't come on the trip. We came home with money still left on the card! We didn't use a cab at all so I can't comment on fares.Hope this helps a little. :smickey:

Hi Doug!

We'll be down there too (leaving March 26th-April 4th:cool1: ) and I always buy the President's Choice phone cards they are really great and so easy to use....you can get them at any Loblaws,No Frills,Zehr's type stores!

Hope you have a great time!

THANKS for the info.I might look into bringing a cooler as a check-in luggage on air Canada bring some snacks, pop, etc. in it then bring park purchases ,duty free bottles back in it? THANKS AGAIN DOUG

Buy a calling card, it is the cheapest way to phone long distance. I buy a calling card at Walmart every year so that my son and I can phone home and my son can talk to his dad every day. I usually buy a $10.00 card and there is always some time left over after phoning home for 7 days. Have a great trip!

Is there a particular type of calling card to look for at Walmart or Zehrs? I've never bought one before. Or do they all work in/from the US?

Julie just look in Zehr's (usually at the check out) for President's Choice calling card....they are only 4.3 cents to the US/or home to Canada.I even use them out here in Simcoe to call my kids etc as all of our family and friends are NOT in Simcoe!lol;) here's a link:

They are so simple to use.:)

The calling card I buy at Walmart are just the regular Walmart ones that they have at the checkout - just follow the directions on the back and they work great from Orlando to Canada.

I was asking about c.cards because last year when I was in Georgia I purchased a c.card there at wal-mart and used it at pay phones and it didn't last long at all.It supposedly would have lasted alot longer calling from motel room phone. And staying on -site at pop cent I have heard negative post about using room phone,I don't know if there is still a service charge to use the phone even with a c.card?I bought my pres choice c.card and will try it out by calling down to flordia soon & let you know if any problems arise ,from the sounds of the above posts there should be no problems.

I have used my PC calling card from POP ( At a payphone ) and have used it to call the US from here bought it ( $10 ) in september and it just expired last week with $ 1 still on it some cards charge you a conection charge for every call that you make but not the PC one

Another vote for the PC cards. No connection charge at all. We use it for our home long distance - no more Bell - very convenient. When amount drops below $2 it automatically tops up by $10, usually lasts anywhere from 2-3 months for us.

I bought a PC $20 card for our trip in December. Phoned my mom and stepson every evening and my DH phoned his brother and sister about every fifth day. My DD14 phoned her friend about twice a week. We were gone for 25 days.

A co-worker just went to Orlando 3 weeks ago for a 2 week vacation. I gave her my card to use up and it lasted her 1.5 weeks. A great deal.

We tried to use it at the payphone at Allstars Music as there was a charge of .75 everytime we used it in the room. (Lots of times, though, I would get lazy and just use the room phone).

On our last trip we bought our $10 phone card at Walmart in Canada...it worked great...our friends waited until they got in Orlando and bought thiers $10US card at Walmart...it didn't work so great. With thier card they were charged alot more for international minutes thus thier card lasted no time. We got twice as many minutes than them they actually started to use our card in the end! She called the help number on the card and was told Walmart cards in the US aren't consider international cards like the Walmart cards in Canada.

There's a small service charge to use room phone to call outside your hotel/Disney, but it's like $.75/ per call. If you use your phone card for the long distance part, you'll just pay that. It's still cheaper than pay phones that really eat up your phone card fast!
