Phone a Friend - Did you ever get called?

I've never paid much attention to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Play It - but has anyone ever been the complete stranger who picks up the phone at MGM?

I've never been the stranger but I saw it happen. And they actually aren't on Mickey Ave, they are inside the WWTBAM theater and is usually either someone waiting for the fastest finger seats or someone with someone disabled in their party because the phone is on the wall in that area. It was quite interesting to see, the CM comes running over (i'm thinking it was pre arranged with the lady who was the stranger, she knew if the person needed to phone a stranter, it would be her). So the CM came over to her and they took off to the phone. She had a hard time hearing and we had no idea what was going on. But she asked us all the question when she got back... was funny.

That's pretty cool. The way the guidebooks make it sound, you're just randomly walking along Mickey Avenue and a phone rings. I guess you have to be in the attraction to be "the chosen one".

Originally, the "Complete Stranger" was either somebody on the (now-closed) Backstage Pass tour - there's a point where the tour is walking through hallways past the soundstages, and if there happened to be a group looking into the Millionaire Studio when the contestant chose that lifeline, the phone would ring up there - or on Mickey Avenue near where the Fast Pass dispensers used to be, outside where the Fastest Finger/disabled waiting area is. When Disney stopped that tour attraction, the only phone was the one on Mickey Avenue. Now, with the attraction waning in popularity and the machines - and therefore the attendant CM - no longer outside the theater, the phone's been moved inside.

I was the stranger two years ago at Christmas time. Can't remember the question, all I remember is I got it wrong.

My DH was a complete stranger and I hate to admit this but he gave the contestant the wrong answer. It was fun though and he got some pins for doing it.

My DH also got in the hot seat. I can't remember to what point he made it - he got hats and pins. Not very far, huh?

I'm not painting a "smart" picture of him am I? Well - he's very smart actually. Go figure.

My hubby was the stranger when we were waiting to get in ...I forget what the question was but none of us had a clue!

My neice was a contestant once and got a bunch of pins.

My oldest DD was the complete stranger a few years ago. We still tease her about it! Her questions was .... What month is official Hot Dog Month? I don't remember what month she said, but she was wrong..... July is the correct answer!

She had fun though, and got a silly sticker that she wore for a while that day! We never have a hot dog without saying something to her!

I was once, and I too had no idea what the answer was, it was a 14 yo in the hot seat so I really wanted to help

DH was at a conference so I was strolling solo in front of WWTBAM waiting for the next show time when the phone rang and the CM asked if I wanted to be the stranger. I got a pin and was invited to stay for the next game and sit in the fast finger row. Lots of fun.

We actually asked the cm once when the phones were outside if dh could be the stranger. He said sure. We waited but no one called.

I'd love to be the "complete stranger", but I guess the odds are pretty slim. In the many times that I've been to WWTBAM, I've only seen them use that lifelife a few times.

A quick funny story about the complete stranger. I was at one show where the Hot Seat contestant used the complete stranger lifeline. The person on the other end of the phone was a man with an unusual first name, (sorry, I can't remember what it was). He successfully helped the contestant. We decided to go right back in to see another show at WWTBAM and the first person in the Hot Seat had the same name as the complete stranger from the previous show. The host said to him, "That's interesting, during our last show, we had a complete stranger with that name." The Hot Seat guy said to the host, "Yeah, that was me!".
Pretty cool day for that guy, right?

After being in the Hot Seat many , many times I sort of volunteered to be a Phone A Stranger and they were delighted that I volunteered. Just ask one of the CM's and you might get as lucky as I.

I was asked a 125,000 question and even though I did not know the actual answer I did know that three of the answers were wrong so it was almost as good as knowing.

The lady I was answering for had pretty much decided on the same answer as I gave. Poor woman should have waited to ask me the next question as I knew that one for real and she did not.

My DH was the complete strange. He was sitting outside waiting for us outside the show and CM gave him the phone. Thank be goodness he got the answer right! He got a "Millionaire" pin for getting the answer right. It was fun hearing him on the other end and recognizing his voice. It's a fun s how!

HI, I was the "stranger" when we were at MGM in February. We had just missed getting into a show so we sat on the bench in front of WWTBAM and the CM asked me if I would answer the call if it came. I said yes ,but told my DS-18 to help me answer! Well when the call came I was so NERVOUS,but I repeated the ? as it was asked with the 4 answers and my son was positive of the answer and got it RIGHT! Later in the week Ds-18 went to WWTBAM with his sister and made it into the HOT SEAT! He won lots of pins, a hat and a shirt,but I missed the WHOLE thing I am hoping he will get another shot at it this summer and this time I will be with him! Joan
