I will be visiting Phoenix in February for a convention. I fly in Thursday mid day and leave the following Tuesday. I have Friday and Monday free (the convention is Sat and Sun). Does anyone have any advice on what I should see? I understand the Grand Canyon is about 4 hours away, would it be possible to drive there on Monday, stay over somewhere between there and Phoenix Monday night and make a 1:50 PM flight on Tuesday? I feel like I should see the Grand Canyon since I don't know if I will be in Arizona again.

You could easily drive to the Grand Canyon on Monday and come back on Tuesday but it would be quick. The only place that is really between Phoenix and the Canyon is Flagstaff, which isn't that far from the Grand Canyon. If you left early on Monday and got there by noon, you'd have about 5 hours or so to explore the area and then head back to Flagstaff for the night, cutting about an hour off your return trip. Sedona is just south of Flagstaff but I don't think you would have time to visit there and get to the airport on time. HTH

You could drive to the Grand Canyon and drive back to Phoenix in a day (a long day). If you leave early enough in the morning, say 6 or 7, tour a lot of the canyon and head back to Phoenix you could be back there by 8 or 9 at night. The grand canyon is lovely, but you get the gist of the canyon after a couple hours. You won't be able to see the entire canyon in even 2 days really, so I wouldn't worry about trying to do that.

Phoenix has a beautiful garden there, you could easily spend a few hours there. Also, check out their science museum.

The Arizona Biltmore is in Phoenix and is absolutely gorgeous! It was designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright. If you're into his architecture it's a real treat. And the botanical gardens are gorgeous also. There's also some Native American ruins near there? I haven't visited those myself but I've heard they're beautiful. If you want to take a 3 hour drive, the London Bridge (yes, the original London Bridge) is in Lake Havasu over on the California border. They brought it over in the 60's and rebuilt it. It's a fun day trip.

Sadona, is a beautiful place, try to go see Sadona,AZ its not to far from Phoenix also the painted dessert and petrified forrest are some neat places in AZ near Phoenix.

We could help more if we knew your interests.

We love the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, so visiting Taliesin (sp?) West was a must. They also have fabulous anitque malls in Phoenix.

I am a nature photographer so naturally (no pun intended!)I love nature! I am thinking of going to Sedona instead of the Grand Canyon. I keep thinking I should see the Grand Canyon but I here Sedona is beautiful and a little closer to Phoenix.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

Don't give up the Grand Canyon! It is something that shouldn't be missed. We just returned last night from a week in Arizona. Our first night was spent at the Kachina Lodge on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Then we had a week in Sedona and finished up with a day in Tucson.

You can DEFINITELY do the Grand Canyon in the time frame you mentioned. It took us 4 hours from Phoenix but we went through Prescott. It will be a slightly shorter drive if you go up through Flagstaff. I would leave by 6:00 am, drive to the Canyon, spend the day there and then drive to Flagstaff after dark. You can stay in Flagstaff and then have a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive to Phoenix the next morning.

The Grand Canyon was truly breathtaking...more massive than you can even imagine. If you do decide to visit it I would drive to Mather Point first and then see what is going on that day. Make sure you take the 8 mile drive to Hermit's Rest. It is a beautiful spot!

Happy travels.
