phobia question

Hi. I totally understand your phobia, I am that way with snakes to the point that I cry when I see them around our neighborhood.
I am at SSR right now, have been here since Monday, and I have not seen 1 little lizard. I usually see them everywhere but than we are always here in warmer months. Its been chilly here this week so that's why we haven't seen them. And I've never had one in our room in all our visits here- I would die!
I hope the same happens for you. Have a good time :goodvibes

We just returned from a short stay in WDW on Wednesday.

On previous trips, I have see them everywhere, but with the exception of last Saturday when it was 80 degrees, it was relatively cool - 60's to low 70's.

I didn't see any during our 5 day stay.

My suggestions would be to get a room that is higher up as a pp mentioned. We always go in August and they really are everywhere. My son and I think they are adorable and DS has tried to catch them. I knew he couldn't so never stopped him. He has only suceeded in catching one little baby and it did not bite just froze. They really are harmless and won't bother you. I don't think that will make you feel any better but I thought I would try. I personally have never had any in our room and we always stay on the first floor. I would think since they like the heat and sun when they get to our air conditioned room it is too cold and dark for them to want to bother in there. Good luck, hopefully you will go in a cooler month and just try to remember they do not bite and don't want to be anywhere near a human.

We have stayed 11 times & there was never a lizard in our room.
I love lizards & yes they are around but not the swarms that everyone is saying.

For whoever asked - I am from Ohio - so I don't have to deal with them being around outside. I am planning to ask for a room that is on the second floor and just hope for the best. My friend just got back from Disney in December and said that they only saw one - and her nephew was looking. I keep checking the weather updates to see what the temp. will be next week. I am now actaully hoping for a bit cooler weather since they don't seem to show up as much in the cold weather. For my own sanity - I am going to choose to believe the people that said that they have hardly seen them instead of those that claim that they are EVERYWHERE (even though I suspect they really are!) Mickey Ears & "They bring me good luck"

I've seen tons of them in the resorts, but never, ever have I seen one in the rooms.:) They generally run from people if they see you anyway. And they really are kinda cute.;) :)

No worries - they don't want to be in your room - they prefer the open air.:thumbsup2

I usually go to Disney in the summer, and though I've seen them in the parks, around the outsides of the hotels, on walkways, etc. I've never seen one in a room. We once had one on our balcony but we just left it alone and it found it's way away from us. I'm not a fan of lizards or any other things like that, but in all honesty I have so much fun at Disney I barely even notice any creepy-crawlers.

Here's a solution that might work and put you a ease:

A friend of mine swears by the fact that lizards hate the smell of cedar and pine. He and his wife buy a pine scented air freshener and quickly spray the threshold of doors (carpet and frames of the hallway and balcony doors) at WDW and have never seen a lizard in their room.

Give it a shot - this may give you some peace of mind and contentment during your magical trip!

Hey, Britt, I'm from Ohio too! My family has been to Disney 10+ times now and stayed at a variety of resorts (from the All Stars all the way up to the WL and the Poly), and I wouldn't say that the lizards are everywhere. Every once in a while I've seen them run across the paths at CBR, CSR, and the All Stars, and I've seen a few in the parks out on the paths and in the foliage (not in the rides or anything like that!) but I've NEVER had a problem with one coming inside the rooms. I think the pine spraying idea on the thresholds by the PP is a good idea to help ease your mind. And like others have said, 99% of the time they will run AWAY from you as quickly as possible NOT towards you.

Personally, I suffer from a phobia of dogs and cats that sends me into severe panic attacks if the animal gets too close so I can totally understand the embarrassment factor involved. I hope you have a wonderful time and that you won't encounter any of our green little friends for your sanity's sake! :goodvibes

Sending good vibes and a bit of pixie dust your way! :wizard:

I was at POFQ last week for five days and honestly can't remember seeing a one. I think it depends on when you're going and what the temperature will be.
A couple years we went in October and I remember seeing a bunch of them scurrying along the sidewalks.

We have been many times and I never seen one. See them all the time at my parents place in Tampa though.:charac4: :charac4: :charac4: :charac4:

I'm surprised at all the reports of never/rarely seeing them. I find that they are everywhere outside. On one occasion, I found 2 in my OKW in the same night. The front desk sent some maintenance guys over to wrangle them with some sticky mousetrap sheets. They got one, but the other escaped under the fridge!

The lizards aren't going to hang around or approach you (unlike all the birds that people feed, ugh), instead they'll run away and hide.

Well, we just got home last night and I am thrilled to announce that I did not see ONE lizard!!! The weather was pretty chilly our first couple of days but it did warm up the last few and I still did not see any. There was one close call though - as we were walking off the Barnstormer in ToonTown my husband noticed a family video taping one that was around the corner from us. He quickly made me stop and look away. I saw the little girl and thought she was getting sick or something so I did not get nervous. Once it moved on it's merry way he let me walk on through. He also saw another one in adventure land but did not tell me until later.

We just returned on Friday. I actually saw 4 lizards. Two at our resort, which was the WL. They were both on the walkways outside, on two different occasions. One was actually on the wheel of the hearse outside of the Haunted Mansion...no lie! The other one we saw was at epcot, near some flowers. All of them were quite small, but it was the most I saw during one trip.

I really wish I could tell you that you won't see a single lizard on your trip. But I'm sorry to report that the little guys are everywhere at WDW. You'll see them at your resort, at the theme parks, pretty much all over the place. That said, in 15+ stays, I've never had one in my room. But they're just a part of life in FL, and there isn't really anything Disney can do about it. I have friends in the Orlando area who've found them in their homes.

I know this probably won't help much, but they're utterly harmless. They don't bite. I don't even think they have teeth.

Yep. Afraid so. On our past trips we stayed two years at ASMU. And the other one at ASMO. Never saw one there. But many years ago we stayed at the Contemporary and I woke up to one hanging on the sheers by our window. Just called the desk and someone took the little fella away.

My son says he sees them all the time at WDW. I never look for them and haven't seen them. Thankfully in all our visits we never have had one in our room.:scared1:
On the other hand I see them all the time at my parents in Tampa. OUTSIDE
thank goodness.

I too have a phobia, but, not of lizards..mice and bats:( I believe I could throw myself into a panic attack if I see them...here's a little sprinkling of pixie dust for you...

The only resort where I have seen them ALL OVER the place is CBR.

Glad to read that you made it back without any panic attacks. I completely understand where you are coming from. I have a phobia of butterflies and moths of all things. :scared1: It's horrible!
