Hey everyone,

Not much running going on for me this week do to work etc. Got in 2 little 3 -mile runs on Tues and Wed. It's pretty rainy here today so I bagged running this morning. My legs have been pretty "dead" this week from the Broad St Run so I am not complaining about the lack of running. I'll look to get in some kind of LR tomorrow in either Philly or A.C. to get motivated.

Jodi - I have had my eye on VA Beach since last year. Can't run it this year because I will be in DL for the 1/2. However, I am definitely running this in 2009. They had this deal last summer that if you ran the Philly Distance Run (1/2) and the VA 1/2 Marathon in the same year you get a special 3rd medal. Both races are in September. The Philly Distance Run was actually a fun race and the medal was nicer then the marathon.

Sara - Hope you're in better spirits!

Hello Colleen, Mike, Chester, Dave, SteveOH, Cindy, and others I missed.

Gotta run...

Lou

Sorry this is an all about me post but...

guess what I am doing at this very moment...

I am watching the movie Anastasia with a group of 7 nine year olds. :scared1: Gone of the days when I can just book a quick 90 minute birthday party at the gymnastics place all the kids were go home with their parents at the end of the afternoon.and These girls scare me.:scared: I need a stiff drink.:sad2:

I am not looking forward to getting them to bed.

SERENITY NOW!!!

Did you get any sleep Colleen?

Hi Guys:yay: !

Just back from a 4 mile walk. Such a nice day outside today:cool1: .

Dave - It's great that you'll be in the World soon:banana: . I do love those quick solo trips to WDW when I am anywhere close to MCO on business:cloud9: . Enjoy:thumbsup2 !

Lou - I hope the legs are feeling a little fresher and that you're able to get in a nice LR this weekend:cheer2: .

Colleen - Are you still hanging in there:scared1: ?! All three of my kids have birthdays within a 30 day span and they're quickly approaching:rolleyes1 . Throw into the mix that my son will be 18 and graduating this year:eek: and I definitely feel your pain:laughing: . I hope you made the best of it:hug: .

Jodi - If we do the Princess 1/2 in March we should definitely do the RNR 1/2 in VA Beach on Labor Day:woohoo: .

Cindy - Thinking of you:hug: this weekend and hoping the 20 miler is a definite confidence builder before your taper:cool1: . Don't let those thoughts of having to have a poor performance due to all of your stellar ones of late even remotely creep in;) . You're gonna rock this one as well:thumbsup2 .

Chester - Lots of :goodvibes to you, Chet, Miranda and Roberto today at the Muddy Buddy:banana: . It sounds like a blast and we're anxiously awaiting a race reportpopcorn:: .

Bill - Thanks so much for your kind words and for popping in over here:grouphug: .

Mike, HummuSteve & Steve-OH - :wave2:

Happy Mother's Day to all of the Mom's out there:flower3:

Colleen - Did you survive?

Sara - Glad you were able to get in a nice walk to enjoy the weather! Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Lou
- I hope you were able to get your run in.

Its still kind of rainy here so I am getting some work done this morning and will go out for my 5 miler in a few hours.

Matt's having problems with his knee again (he thinks it's the IT band). While I was running the Minnie last week, he was attempting a 20 miler. He ended up walking the last three miles because his knee pain was so bad. He hasn't run since and is not sure he will run today and is questioning whether he will be able to do the marathon.:sad2: We got our final race instructions and bib numbers for the RnR Marathon in the mail last night. I want to be  but its hard because I know he is upset.

Colleen - Sounds like a lot of fun. I have my own DD7 so I know the feeling. Nowadays you have to come up with these elaborate parties. We usually plan a "kids party" and "family party" which is where the adults get to have their stiff drinks while the kids party.

Sara - Nice to see you got some miles in. How did your knee hold up?

Cindy - Sorry to hear about Matt's knee problem so close to San Diego. If were him I would take a major taper and get healthy as possible for the race. San Diego is going to be an awesome race for you. That's one marathon I plan to run in the next few years. SD has to be my favorite city. you can almost guarantee 70-degree, sunny, with low humidity every day.

I got in 13 miles in A.C. today. Nothing special but it was nice to run on the boardwalk and sand. Although I will say that the sand is a workout and hard to run fast on. I did have a 9-1-1 emergency Jodi-stop at Mile 8. Thank God I was in A.C. and there were plenty of casinos around. I jumped into Caesar's which is a lot nicer then using the woods.

Happy Mother's Day!!

Lou

Uugh, I struggled through a 6 mile run yesterday. 6 miles on the Erie Canal trail in 54:29 min/9:04 mpm. I'm actually surprised by the time because every step of the way felt like I was fighting my body. I was exhausted, legs were dead, and my quads started cramping. Oh well, at least I got some steps in.

Happy Mother's Day everyone.

Dave - I think we had the same run. My legs were just dead yesterday. I agree with you that it was good to at least get some steps in. You had a nice pace for having dead legs.

I forgot to mention yesterday that about half way through my run I totally wiped out on the boardwalk. I hit a board that was sticking out and almost fell on my face but was able to roll over on my shoulder. The amazing thing is that no one saw it because I was in a dead spot. Besides being embarrassed I am fine.

Good Morning and Happy Mother's Day All

Sara

I am sorry to hear your news, but you will be back, healthier and happier by far. I had the same surgery in 1999 (years of wear and tear on the minescus from soccer caused it to feather). Like you I had been puting it off and trying to stretch, etc, but when the thing began to lock up the decision was made. At first when I was back running it was tender and I had to ice it after, but at some point in time, and honestly I don't remember how long, it just went away. I don't even think about it anymore.

For the rehab I did tons of biking on the recumbent bike. It surprised me that extension of the knee was far harder than bending it, so I would bike and move the seat forward and back throughout the session. Sometimes making it bend a bit more than it wanted, and sometimes making it extend more.

Good luck. I'll try to follow this thread and see your progress.

MSW Dave

Congratulations of the SUNY offer. I'm very pleased that you have that offer in hand.

Lou

Wow! That is one smoking time for 10. I hope when people asked you how you did you told them, "well they had to call in the fire department after to put the course out."

Cindy

It was great to run with you for a bit last Sunday. The fact that you blistered a 5K the day before makes your 15K even more impressive. From the way you were moving when we were together, I never would have guessed you ran so hard and fast the day before.

Colleen

Few things make a parent happier than seeing all children picked up by parents and taken home at the end of a birthday party. You've earned that nap.

Take care all.

Craig

Craig - Thanks for the compliments. I love your signature. That has always been one of my favorites songs (and lines), especially after turning 40 last week.

Lou

Checking in.

Got caught up in getting work done this morning. Ran. Got rained on. Finished the 20 miles. Kinda slow - Nothing special. Had people over for dinner. Time for bed. Back tomorrow!

Just a quick post so that you all know I'm still alive.

Our computer died last week (stole the girls' for now) then we had DD7's First Communion and all the hub-bub that entails on Saturday.

Rain, rain, rain yesterday and this morning.

I haven't run since Thursday. Good thing this is taper time!

Gotta go. Bus stop time.

Take care everyone!

Greetings Everyone: Sorry for the all about me post. I did 5.39 miles last night in 51:01 min/9:28 mpm pace. The best thing was DD7 pooh: rode her bike beside me the whole way. It was a great evening. I'll be back to catch up with everyone later.

Good afternoon folks,

Sara, sorry to hear about your MRI results, but hopefully surgery will get you back in the saddle. There must be some relief to actually know what is going on inside that knee.

A little walking yesterday and hopefully a little biking today.

Must go to work.

Hi - everyone's very quiet lately.

Happy belated Mother's Day!

I didn't get to finish my Minnie Race Report this weekend like I said I would. :sad2: Instead, I spent my "free" time drafting a document for work.

Craig - Thanks for the compliment. It was great running with you. Congrats on a great race!

Colleen - Hope you are able to get a nice ride in after work.

Dave - great pace on your run! That's great that you got to have your DD keep you company.

Mike - I'm glad you're alive. When do you leave for Cleveland?

Chester - Hope you had fun in the mud!

Jodi - Where are you?

Steve - :wave2:

Cindy - Thinking of you:hug: this weekend and hoping the 20 miler is a definite confidence builder before your taper:cool1: .

I'm trying not to over think this (because I over think everything). The run was ok. My average pace was 10:58 over the 20 miles but my average pace for the last 3 was well over 11:30. I just can't imagine how I'll be able to stay under a 10:20 pace over 26 miles. I get so tired after 16 or 17 miles that everything just sort of falls apart. I think that maybe I have not built up enough endurance/fitness for a good marathon yet:confused3 I'm still going to try for the 4:30, but whatever happens, happens. If I can't do it in San Diego, I feel confident that I can do it in Philly if I keep training the way that I've been training.

Cindy - Sorry to hear about Matt's knee problem so close to San Diego. If were him I would take a major taper and get healthy as possible for the race.

That's his plan. After 6 days of no running, he did 5 miles on Sat, Sun, and today and felt fine. He only starts to have problems when the miles get high, so he's not planning on doing any more long runs before the marathon. Better to be undertrained than hurt, right?

So, I'm officially tapering. Ran 5 this morning and actually felt great. But it was 40 degrees - I thought I was done with long sleeves!

Hey Everyone,

Dave - Glad you had a good run with your daughter.

Colleen - For some reason the thought struck me the other day; did you ever get the new car when you were asking about them a few months back?

Cindy - Don't put too much pressure on yourself for San Diego. You've been training really strong!! Run what you can run for as long as you can run it then see where you end up.

I'm heading out for a few miles this evening while DD is in dance. I'll probably do an easy 5 or so.

I ran 5 last night at about marathon pace too. It was dark and pretty drizzly when I finished so I couldn't see the Garmin, just ran a comfortable pace.

Toodles.

2008 WDW Muddy Buddy Report

First, here is a little background info about the race from their website:
Both partners start at the same time, one running and one biking. The course is approximately 6 miles long and is separated into 5 legs by obstacles along the way. The first obstacle is near the one mile mark. Assuming that the biker is traveling faster than the runner, the biker will first approach the obstacle transition area. The biker will drop the bike and conquer the obstacle and start running to the 2nd transition/obstacle. The runner will then approach the first transition area, conquer the obstacle, find the bike and start riding to the 2nd transition/obstacle area. The team will continue to leap frog throughout the course switching between biking and running.

There will be five obstacles on each Muddy Buddy course. Mystery events could be challenges such as a cargo net crawl, a wall, monkey bars, or a hay bale obstacle. At every race teams will have to conquer the famous Mud Pit before crossing the finish line together.

Team "Muddy Drummrz" and 1/2 of Team "ScottScott" along with pit crew "MrsTrx" boarded the Ark at 3:30am Saturday morning to head to WDW WWOS. The other half of Team "ScottScott" followed in the Batmobile because he was heading to Gainesville after the race for Medieval Faire Combat practice.

We landed on site by 5:30am and picked up our race packets then headed back to the Ark to chill out untill the 7:00am start. Chet and I would be starting in the 3rd wave at 7:14 while Miranda and Roberto would be starting in the 9th wave at 7:56.

I was the designated biker for the start and Chet was the runner. I rode to the first obstacle and parked the bike. The first obstacle was a vertical wall climb with "rock climb" knobs attached to the face of the wall. It was a little slippery due to dew on my shoes but I managed and headed out on a run for the second leg.

I was passed by a lot of people during this running leg, but I was concerned because it was humid and I knew that it was best to conserve early in the race. Chet caught up and passed me on the bike just before we got to the second obstacle. The second obstacle was a rope climb to the top of an inflatible slide. Things were a little crowded at this obstacle. After sliding down, I found the bike and headed off for the third leg.

Since Chet had passed me just prior to the obstacle, I knew that it wouldn't be very long until I overtook him. I rode fast enough to maintain position and didn't worry about riding to pass people. I made it to the third obstacle which was a series of three balance beams. I completed the obstacle and took off on the fourth leg running.

The fourth leg has trails with a lot of sugar sand. It was the longest leg and was difficult for both the runners and bikers. I managed to only get passed a couple of times during this leg and ended up passing more people than passed me. Chet overtook me on the bike about 3/4 of the way to the fourth obstacle. The fourth obstacle was a set of parrallel bars theat were spaced about 4 feet apart that you had to weave yourself through by going over, then under.

I found the bike and set out on the fifth and last leg knowing that I would need to catch up to Chet before the end so that we could enter the Mud Pit together and finish. I think I caught him about 2/3 of the way to the finish and stayed at his pace.

I parked the bike for the final time and met up with Chet to enter the mud pit. I immediately ended up splashing mud in my eyes with the first placement of my hand into the mud. The rest was a 50 yard crawl on my belly through the mud, ducking under banners to keep my helmet from catching on the banners strung low over the pit. We finished the 6+ miles in 54:31. Not as good as 2006's 53:48, but a lot better than 2007's 58:28. It was a muddy blast. We are already Looking forward to our 4th attempt next year.

Sorry I've been absent as of late...I don't have any lame excuse like my computer blew up or whatnot :rolleyes1 . Happy Be-lated Mother's Day to all of you moms!!:flower3:

Chester - WOW!! Loved the report, that looks like a blast!! I've been wanting to check that whole thing out, but can't figure out how I'd get a bike down there, it's too dang expensive to ship. Besides, my bike's like a Huffy, or something :rotfl2: , not even WORTH shipping!! Glad you had fun, those pictures say it all!!

Dave - Nice run with your Disney princess: , that's awesome!! When are you headed down to Disney..uh, I mean, your conference?

Colleen - Hey, how's the walkin'? And how's Jeff doing anyway? Any lingering pains or is he all set to run another marathon??:scared1: You've gotta give up this work stuff, it's interfering with your posting!! Glad you survived the Princess Party!!

Cindy - Hey!! Listen, don't stress about your LRs or anything like that, you'll be absolutely FINE in CA. The adrenaline of the day will stop all that falling apart towards the end. Just go have fun & don't worry about times!! Heck, you'll be in San Diego!! And don't forget, ALL my runs have sucked weeks b4 a race & it always turns out fine  . When are you guys leaving?

Mikey - Hey man, what's up?? Did you guys get a new computer yet or are you sneaking into the girls' room again?? Seems like you're getting your taper miles in as well, very nice. Wish I was tapering for something!! When are you leaving for OH?

Sara - How ya doin' there, gimpy? Don't drop off the face of the earth now, I don't want to have to drive up to Lake George to check on you!

Lou - OK, fess up, I KNOW you're running in a race this weekend somewhere. :rotfl2: Sorry about you JodiStop on the boardwalk!

Hi to all the others who haven't been posting either!

I ran 5 Sun. a.m. & 6 this a.m. It's feeling better but I had to pop a blister on my big toe. Soaking it in epsom salt, too. It doesn't really hurt, but looks kinda gnarly (as do the rest of my toes). That's all I have to report...SEE why I haven't posted???
