Hi!
Could someone suggest a good hotel in or near Philadelphia?
We are thinking of a three day trip and I have not been there in years.
TIA

Lisa

I like the Hyatt at Penn's Landing. I booked it last February for $99 per night from hotwire.com. There is only one 4-star hotel at Penn's Landing, so it was a safe bet that I would get the Hyatt for that.

From the Hyatt, you can walk everywhere, but since it is at the river and the things you might want to see will be 10-25 blocks away, a taxi will serve you well from this location.

Thank you! I am not familiar with the area and am kind of leery about choosing a hotel. I appreciate your help.

We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn. Great location, had a 1 bedroom with kitchen and the price was reasonable for the city.

i second that hotel. i felt very safe walking around that area.

I also think the Hyatt is a good choice.

What are you going to see that might help too, although you can just take a cab?

The usual touristy stuff. We are thinking of taking the kids to Liberty Hall, Liberty Bell, etc.

Priceline a 4 Star!

We have received both the Hyatt @ Penn's Landing and The Park Hyatt at the Bellvue for under $100 per room:banana:

Both were AWESOME:lovestruc

We Pricelined a hotel (4 star) there in September and got the Westin for 135/night. It was like $350 if you booked through Westin!

It was a fantastic location, and we were able to walk pretty much everywhere we wanted to in the city.

Two suggestions: The Reading Terminal Market is AMAZING and you have to eat a DiNic's Roast Pork sandwich. One of the best things ever. Also, there's a spanish tapas restaurant called Amada which is fantastic as well, but you need to make reservations.

You really can't go wrong with any of the 4-stars that were listed. Independence Hall is on 6th Street, so definitely walkable from Penn's Landing. From there, you can walk to the Reading Terminal and City Hall. I'd take a cab to the Franklin Institute or the Art Museum, or you can catch one of the trolleys that take you around.

Remember, Ben Franklin is buried near Independence Hall and Betsy Ross's house is near his gravesite. If you're interested in an authentic Revolutionary-era dinner after your site-seeing, you can go to City Tavern on 2nd and Walnut. They serve venison, rabbit, duck, etc., from that period and they also serve "normal" dishes for the less adventurous. It is not inexpensive, though, especially if you're bringing kids since there is no kids' menu.

If you need advice about things to do, don't hesitate to ask. Oh, and check out the Convention Center's website. We stumbled upon a food trade show one year that was about $15 to enter and had aisle upon aisle of tasting stations. It was sponsored by the Food Network and Kitchenaid, called The Book and the Cook. Unfortunately, it was moved from center city to somewhere near Plymouth Meeting a few years ago. We went several years in a row until they moved it.
