Phen-Fen Class Action Suit

Are you saying that you don't post from work? I wasn't just talking about today you know.

Haven't in months - I'm training my replacement, and as I'm sure you know, it takes twice as long to teach someone to do you job as it does to do it yourself. :goodvibes

Again, are you trying to say that you don't post from work? I wasn't just talking about today.

Please read my post above. Have I ever posted from work? Of course I have, but only when there was no work to be done. Of course, that doesn't stop you from bringing it up anytime you have nothing of substance to add to a conversation, debate or thread.

Isn't that special.

Yes, it is! Nice to know that you can appreciate something like that!

Bingo. You have posted from work thus, you are being a hypocrite when you challenge the OP on doing The Right Thing. You just don't have room to question someone elses behavior when your own choices and decisions are IMHO faulty and morally reprehensible.

Like I was saying, I don't understand how you can question and grill someone else when you yourself has done some very unsavory things at the expense of the American Taxpayers.

I don't happen to appreciate manicures. I think they're a huge waste of my time and money. Your manicures and mine.

:rotfl:

You'll never see me claim that I've not been hypocritical about some things. In fact, I'd challenge you to find anyone (other than yourself, of course :lmao: :lmao: ) that has never been hypocritical.

But keep on showing your colors for all to see...you're proving me right with every single keystroke...

I took the drug for quite a few months but choose not to sue. I did end up with a leaky valve and my heart off and on has an extra beat. Not a major problem now but later probably will be. I found out about my heart problems a couple of years later. Still choose not to sue.

Here's why I didn't sue: I choose to take the drug, I knew it was probably not a wise thing to do. At the time it was still available there were already horror stories on TV (including death) but it hadn't been pulled yet. I got my butt chewed out from my ob-gyn for being on it. It was on TV, in the newspaper, magazines etc. I did lose weight and for the first time in my life I didn't have hunger pains 24/7. I was able to control my eating. Best diet drug I have ever taken! :teeth: Four or five months later I finally started listening to my dr and others and quit taking it. Not worth being skinny if it meant death and leaving my kids with no mom.

Seriously, you had to have your head in the sand to not know this drug was bad news from pretty much the beginning.I was stupid for going ahead and taking it after everything I knew. Unless you were in the very first group of those that took it before all the bad publicity started then I can understand maybe being compensated. It took them quite awhile to pull it so there was plenty of negative out there about it.

My gut feeling is that my heart was damaged from taking it but I just don't see the point in suing, jmo. I guess I could blame the drug if I want to sue. I had the facts, I choose to ignore them like most.

I do feel bad for those that were in the beginning group that took it and died or had major damage, they had no warning and I do believe they and only they have a right to sue.

Cheri, people like you that had real damage absolutely should be reimbursed, IMO. Yes, you chose to take the drug, but at the same time, did the FDA not approve it as being safe? I think for most people, they would see that as being a green light to try it. You shouldn't have to bear the financial burden of medical care for a condition that you didn't know could occur.

It seems to me that as long as it often takes the FDA to approve a drug, they should be able to get it right.

My colors? :confused3
What? I simply don't like to see people bulldozed by angry bullies.

Oh that's right - once you quit doing it yourself, you became the great avenger! :thumbsup2

BTW, I'm not angry in the least - I have strong opinions, true, but life is too short to be angry over the internet - don't you agree?

As the manager of a fairly large organization I could only hope for an employee who never does any personal business during work time. I do some of my personal business during work time also. To me it's not the hours that are worked, but the amount of work done by the employee. I would never bust the chops of one of my employees if I caught them on the DIS as long as their overall work ethic was good.

Yep. When there's work to do, it is obviously the first priority. But the fact is, there isn't always work to do - none of my own or anyone else's. It's just a fact of the environment I'm in.

Of course I would never allow one of my employees to work naked...

Exposure to certain disease or cancer causing substances can show a timeline of 20-30 years or more.

Yes it was approved to be safe but at the time that I started taking it, I did know what probably could occur. I couldn't get away from all the bad publicity about it.It was in my face almost daily! Right now I dont have any financial burdens from my condition (it's consider not a major problem for now so no meds, just have the heart checked off and on). I have great ins. so no biggie.True though they should get it right. I understand I could sue, I just choose not too.

My understanding is that the valvular problems were caused by the drugs in the system. Once the drugs have been out of the system for 10 years, what will cause the problem? Perhaps you've seen something different?

You took the words out of my mouth. When I first went on Phen/fen my doctor gave me some doccumentation to sign saying that I knew what I was getting into. I took it for 8 months. I do have an extra beat in my heart on occasion, and like you, there's no issue now, but down the line I'm sure there will be. Who knows, but I didn't file because *shrug* I chose to ignore the warnings like others.

I thought this thread was abot phen-fen, not bucknaked's job performance. seems someone wants to bully you into silence, my friend.

my understanding is that the two drugs that make up Phen-Fen were both on the market since the 1970's, and were both safely used. it was only when the two were combined in the 1990's that problems were detected.

class action site

I haven't done a lot of reading on the subject, bucknaked, but I do believe it's possible for some people who took the drugs and sustained heart damage haven't discovered their injury yet. if they doin't pursue their claims in the class action they may be barred from doing so at a future date.

You know what, I think that's the best post talking about personal responsibility that I have ever seen. Kudos to you!

Bumcat, that is amazing. You actually would deserve the money, but take responsibility for yourself and your choices. Hats off to you!

You'll know there is a true weight loss drug when you cease seeing fat doctors.a quote from my own dear doc!

I agree. BTW Buck - does anybody ever thank you for your service to our country. I do. You know it's probably hard for someone who has only worked in menial jobs and never in an executive capacity as you do, to understand how it all works.

I find it amazing that I am being criticized for preserving my rights and being awarded compensation based on a court decision.

Why I chose to take the drug was my personal choice. I do not remember my doctor giving me any warnings or having me sign a waiver. I also do not remember there being any negative publicity; I do remember phen-fen being hailed as a wonder drug combination.

I hope the next time you (in the plural) make a decision that one of you feel is best for you, someone chooses to lambast you on a public bulletin board. I never posted this asking for an opinion; I posted this to see if anyone else has received compensation in the near past.
