My husband just realized he is without one type of medication and we leave for WDW tomorrow before the store opens. Does anyone know if walgreens or cvs ( or another pharmacy) delivers to the resorts?

This happened to us once. Shortly after checking into our WDW resort, DH realized he left his medication at home. A CM at the front desk gave us the name and number of a local pharmacy that delivers to WDW. We called the pharmacy and they asked us some questions (DH's name, the prescription info, name and phone number of our pharmacy at home, whether we wanted a full refill or just a week's supply, etc.). They called our local pharmacy, did whatever was necessary to be able to fill the prescription for us, delivered the medication to our resort and billed it to our room. We didn't even have to hang around the resort waiting for the delivery. We stopped by the front desk later that day to pick it up.

I had the exact same experience as Lisa last year. It was quite painless. Everything seemed to happen behind the scenes. I was told this is not uncommon and the local pharmacy they work with deals with this all the time.

I don't know, I'd check with the resort. You may have an issue getting your insurance to cover it in this situation, if so, you may want to get the minimum. Other options would be to have someone overnight it or take a cab to a nearby pharmacy. Publix has a short list of free meds and WM & Target have a longer list of cheaper meds.

In our case, the pharmacy we called told us we were on our own to try to get reimbursed from our insurance company. This was several years ago now so things may have changed since then.

We didn't bother as it wasn't a terribly expensive medication and we had opted for the one-week supply rather than a full refill. We were happy to pay the cost and not lose vacation time dealing with it ourselves.

The reason I mentioned it is that many medications can be very expensive even if they are generic and many insurance companies have locked in arrangements with pharmacies as well as quantity and frequency limits. Even at home one might lose or spill a medication and have to pay full price for the refill that was previously covered. And while it's sometimes possible to manipulate the prescription to get it covered (write two 250 mg instead of the one 500 mg tablet for example) if done for the purpose of bypassing the charges and getting it covered under insurance, this can be fraud. OTOH if one is dealing with a national chain that works with their insurance company and one could get a legitimate refill at home, it's often very easy to do so, esp for those that share things electronically. Walgreen's seems to be the easiest to work with in this area, CVS a little less so. One other issue is that when it's done in this way they often transfer the entire prescription which will need to be transferred back before you can get your refills at home. Getting something covered from a travel situation isn't that difficult if one could have gotten the same medication at home at the time in question though.
