Hello,

We are in the initial stages of planning our 1st Disney trip with our son (5 yrs old). My husband and I haven't been in almost 9 years either, so we want to just take our time and see as much as we can but not kill ourselves. We are going in August so I know it's going to be dreadfully hot and plan on taking afternoon pool/nap breaks.

My question is: Should we get park hoppers or not? Being this is our son's first time going, we're not really sure what he'll be into the most (guessing MK and AK). We are going for 6 days so we figured 2 MK, 2 AK (not sure needs 2 days?) 1 Epcot, 1 HS. Or should we do one park in the morning and park hop to another in the evening? Anyone done this with a 5 yr old or similar age? Thanks for any input!!

Buy base tickets first. Then, wait until you are at WDW to see if you want to hop. If you do, upgrade to hoppers.

Yes, this. There is no need to invest in hoppers now if you don't know if you will use them. August is REALLY hot. Personally, I would plan on one park per day and wait to see how your child does before adding the hopper option.

Thanks for the advice! I am glad I asked because I didn't realize you could upgrade once there. I think we will stick with the base tickets.

I'd probably recommend a base ticket for you.
2 days at MK, 1 day AK, 1 day Epcot, 1 day HS.
Take one day to sleep in, enjoy your resort and go to Disney Springs.

I agree, I would do the base ticket. If it's really hot it can get kind of miserable in the parks in the afternoon. It's nice to go back to the hotel for a break/pool time. Then you don't have to worry about getting to another park just because you paid for it.

You can upgrade your ticket on any day of your trip.
Same price.

I would not hop this time. I would plan 2 MK days, 1 Epcot, 1 AK, 1 HS. Then, if you’re feeling adventurous, I would leave your 6th park day (the last) open until you brought him to all the parks once. Then make your final decision on what park to do. Maybe plan on it being a 3rd MK or 2nd AK and book FP ahead of time accordingly. But after you’ve gone to the parks, simply change that last day to whatever park you all enjoyed the most. Obviously FP choices would be tougher if you changed, but you’ll have a better idea of what you would want to go back to do.
