pewter storage question

this is probably a wierd question to ask here but this place is full of great information on so many subjects - so here goes.

we have a lot of pewter pieces, bowls, serving trays, etc., that were awards from the company that dh worked for. they are pretty but are engraved with the company logo in a prominent spot on each piece. i displayed them for a while when he first received them. after there got to be so many, i just stored them in their boxes in a closet. i am taking this space to enlarge a bathroom. will this stuff be ok in the attic? i really don't want to ask dh if i can just get rid of it. (chicken and don't want to hurt his feelings- though probably already have by not displaying them in years.)

any help will be appreciated.

Why don't you ask him how he feels about them? He may not like them anymore than you do. You'll have your answer. I've got a few pewter things, I've had them for about 20 years, they don't look any different than when I got them.

ours doesn't look any different either but i'm wondering how they will do stored up in the hot attic. as for asking dh, i could, but he is really proud of his accomplishments from work and he's very sensitive. he won't get mad but he could be hurt.

the good news, now the reward is $$$ instead of stuff like pewter!!! much more enjoyable! good for things like wdw trips!

Ok here's my take on it. If he is proud of his accomplishments and he is proud of his collection, then I would display it. You don't have to like it, but you understand what it means to him. If you are afraid he'll be hurt by just you asking about it, then there wouldn't even be a question in my book.

I really don't think him finding out later that his stuff is in the attic is a good thing. He needs to be asked first.


Money is so much simpler isn't it.


Just to be clear. I understand you need the space. But if it's important to him, I would find a place for them. Maybe explaining the problem to him. Maybe he can pick his favorite pieces and put the rest up.
