I thought there was an area to see animals. Sorry if this is a silly question, but our first trip was in November where I think it was closed to convert for the holidays. Is there an area like that, or is that where the Celebration BBQ is?
There is a small petting zoo at Big Thunder Ranch with goats and sheep. There is also a few turkeys and a donkey that you are not allowed to pet there too.
The petting zoo is the cleanest one that I have ever seen. Just one little goat dropping and a CM is right there with cleaning tools in hand. I was really impressed by that. There are many goats and a few sheep in the pen. There is also a bull (Not in the same pen) and a cow (Most definitely not in the same pen with the bull) Not really allowed to pet the bull, but the cow is ok if she is in the mood for such. Sometimes there will be a draft horse to see as well. She was not out at the time of my visit (Last August) cannot remember if you can pet her or not. I have experience with horses, but many do not. So probably off limits to petting her. You can pet the draft horse that pulls the wagon at Main Street, just need to ask first, then you can pet the horse on their side. I so enjoyed that ride last year, and being able to pet her after the ride was over. The ride does not cost anything either. That was a wonderful and great way for this horse lover to be able to start their Disney day!!

Maggie the Jersey cow was nice to pet- she was very friendly( we have a farm, so are used to large animals) some little kids laughed when she licked my hand. The big suffolk sheep was a sweetie, and I love how all the little goats have bandanas on. I can understand why the mini donkey is off limits- they sometimes have more attitude than they are worth, but are high on the "cute" factor...
No horses in the petting area, but they do have a lot of goats, a cow, a bull, a turkey and Chip & Dale at times. Of course you can't pet them all (not the bull anyway) but you can pet most of them. Oh ya, they have a donkey too, DBF must pet the donkey.....and yes, they have sinks, soap and hand sanitizer to clean up when you're done.
Last August when I was visiting the petting zoo, there was a pen for one of the horses, but she was not available at the time. Hopefully, she has returned since. Perhaps she was on holiday.
I know some of the names of the goats, there was Jane and Wendy, and if memory is serving me correctly, the big sheep, his name is George.
Apparently last year, a CM was not mindful of which were male and female goats when putting them away one day, and did not think to say anything to anyone. Well, at some point it was figured out, for one of the goats had twins. Apparently many of the mama goats at Dl. have twins, maybe it is something in the air? It is important for people that are working with animals not to make that kind of mistake, for obvious reasons. Anyway, I was rather entertained by that true story.

I saw the Donkey in June of 08.....when I asked after Holly [Horse] The Cm just told me she was off for a few days but would still be making appearances. She was very young though [2 maybe?] So you couldn't pet her or anything [likes to nibble]

Yeah well you know how 2 year old are.....everything must go in the mouth first! Sad but it's true even with horses [who don't fully mature until 5 yrs or so]
