OOOHHH!!! I like the way you think.

Just so everyone that cares knows, my editor said I will have her revisions by next Friday (hopefully). If I don't have any major overhauls that need to be made to it, I can begin looking for a publisher (or trying to find the money to publish it myself) after that.

I have been really grateful for all the supportive comments here. When I started this, I truly didn't think this would be something that anyone would really care about. I thought it would just be one trip report in the midst of hundreds. But some of you have seemed really emotionally invested in my tale, and that has touched me in a very real way. What a fantastic group of people! Ya'll are the type of people that make this world a great place to be.:hippie:

Also, I have yet to hear from "Kevin's link" people. So keep recruiting people for the petition. I'll let everyone know when I do hear from them.

I support a name change as well.

Good luck with your book endeavor. It is exciting.

Well, folks. The administrator people never responded after I forwarded a link to this thread. I gave up, forfeited my "ears" that I worked so hard to earn, abandoned my list of subscribed threads and tracked down a new e-mail address so that I could register again under a new name.

I was a very big pain in my butt. I am not a computer whiz, so I got myself into a big mess while I attempted to redesign my avatar, signature and other stuff. My password wouldn't work. Somehow I couldn't log myself in, and then I locked up my computer when all my failed attempts flagged me as a hacker.

But I think that I finally righted everything. I am now NDM#1. Thank you to everyone who petitioned for me. Even though it didn't "win" me a new name, I feel like it got me a lot of new friends.:grouphug:

As I mentioned before, my book should be finished with editing by Friday. I have been researching the publishing process a little bit. It looks really intimidating, and I am questioning whether a publisher will be interested in my neurotic story. But I guess I won't know until I try.

The other thing I am having difficulty with is finding out about Disney's copyright laws and all that. I mention a lot of costumed characters, restaurants, resorts, etc. (obviously since the entire book is about my interaction with these things in WDW). But I don't want to get sued if I publish my story. Does anyone know how I can find out about working around these copyright/trademark laws? Or does anyone know a person that I can contact to find out about these laws? Anyone? Anyone?

Any help would be appreciated.

I know you have to indicate that all the disney related items mentioned in the book are registered trademarks of the Walt Disney Company, All rights reserved, you can do this in the credits of the book for each chapter. It is also Usually noted on the ISBN Page with your copyright data. You publisher should be able to help with any other copyright clearance issues or Royalty issues that may arise with the publication. If you self publish, then you will need to work directly with a Copyright Clearance house to pay any royalty that you could owe for using disney's trademark to earn money for publishing your book.

I would work with a lawyer specializing in copyrights if you choose to self publish.

Ugh! This sounds like a big headache if I have to self-publish. And it also sounds expensive. Do you know anything about self-publishing? Is it worth the initial output of money?

Sorry, I haven't got back sooner, I didn't have the thread activated and I hadn't checked back until today.

I know that some of the online bookstores do have web sites to help with self publishing, using on-demand printing (book will be printed digitally when an order is received), thus eliminating the need to purchase 1000 books+ to get started on your own. I would check Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-million, & Borders.com. to see what they offer in help to self publish. They may also have the mean's to get you through the Copyright Clearance process.

Amazon may be you best starting point, here is their website on the self publishing process. Good luck with your book.

For some reason, this makes me :rotfl:

But I think the dry undertones could be carried off quite well by him, and made even more hilarious that he is not exactly a mom.

I am trying to keep everyone posted on this process because ya'll have been truly incredible and supportive. My family is still rather blown away by the general enthusiasm for our funny story.

I just finished the first revisions since my editor gave my script back to me. I was very encouraged because she said it was exceptionally well written with strong characters and that it was the easiest editing job that she has ever had. I think this is a good sign.

I have e-mailed the revisions to her, so I will wait to see if she has anything else to suggest. However, I think what I have at this point is very close to how it will be for publication (assuming I get that far).

Some people on this board have been EXTRA helpful. I now have some leads on figuring out the trademark laws that Disney must have . . . thanks to my incredibly supportive listmates here on the Disboards. I even have a fellow Diser who may provide illustrations for it:artist: .

My dedication for the book will be to fellow Diser, Meg Veg, who was the first person to see my trip report as something more than a trip report. But I think at this point I am going to also have to acknowledge this online Disney community in general because I would not have been motivated to stick through this process without ya'll.:grouphug: I certainly feel like this has become a team effort.

So thanks to EVERYONE!! I will update again when there is a new development.

Well, I'll be very interested in your progress as I've been wanting to get into the writing business/illustrating business myself - but with children's stories.

I really, really love your book so far and I'll be hoping the best for you.

Yay, then we all know a published author. How amazing!!!
