Pete's solo show today is a must!

My favorite part was "look around and see who you are with" We have had some loss, and health issues in my family this year, this really resonates with me! I will try hard to slow my mind down next trip and say those words to myself.

I actually enjoyed this show more than the regular format. I think email/voicemail is a better segment than "Rapidfire." So it was refreshing.

I think the popularity of this show is a sign that the regular format could use an upgrade.
It's a rigid format to the point you can tell some Rapidfires are totally irrelevant and simply a tool to make sure everyone gets a chance to give one.

I actually found it interesting to hear Pete talk about his wish that Disney would put some effort into refreshing some of the old attractions. I think it's a valid statement for the weekly Dis show, as well. It hasn't changed a bit for the several years I've been listening.

This show also made me realize how much Pete means to the show and organization. When he's not there, my interest level lowers considerably. I often don't listen to the weekly topic show because Pete usually doesn't participate. I feel like Pete, John, and Kevin are the lifeblood of that show. I get so sad when one or more of them are not present.

I think I have to agree. I also really enjoyed Pete's solo "sick show" a few months back. It allows Pete to rant more (always a good thing), and I think the email/voicemail segments really work well and should be done more. I don't mind the Rapidfire segment as much as you do. For me, it's all the "housekeeping" sometimes that I mind more. There are times where it takes them forever to get into the "meat & potatoes" of the show with all the housekeeping.

I really enjoyed the quarterly report breakdown as well as when Pete talked about taking it all in and enjoying Disney with the ones you love. Great podcast, as usual.

I believe the solo show works because its done so infrequently. Its special and different. The email and voicemail also adds to that unique vibe. I love the team concept for 95% of the shows, I've grown quite fond of the entire team and their chemistry. Given that the solo show was great but I also imagine its difficult because as Pete pointed out there's no one to bounce things off of......its just Pete.

If it were me I wouldn't even schedule a solo show far in advance I think the suprise factor makes it better. To me no real need to shake up the apple cart. The podcast works as it is......there are enough voices to get all points of view out there. If I have any suggestions I'd like to see Kevin lead a "7 Restaurants in 7 days" podcast and I'd also like to see the return of the "All female" show......really enjoy when Julie leads that show......they haven't done one in a while.

Doug :goofy:

I like Pete's solo shows, too, but he's dead wrong about Sea World. I'm getting sick of him telling me to "do my research" if I don't agree with him. I did do the research, on both sides, so allow me to suggest he do the same.

Show was great! I loved the Rants!!! lol so Good, gets me fired up at the gym. But the Federalist website is full of Kooks, and am glad they wont vistit the parks anymore! And plus the Sheep that listen to them wont be either! More room for Real Dizers!

Totally agree.

So don't agree. Sea World is a great company which does much good in animal rescue, etc.

Loved your show today Pete, my husband and I listened during part of a 4 hour drive and it made the time fly. My husband LOVES your rants, so it was perfect.
I love all the shows, your solo shows, when most of the team is there or when it's just a few.

What you said about looking at who you're with and just enjoying the moments really hit home with me because we've had a recent big loss and a rough couple of years.

Thank you and the whole team for all you do, I appreciate it.

I love Pete and his straight forward answers. This was a great show, but of course I missed the rest of the team. I was just happy to see there was still a show this week

Just because you disagree doesn't make him wrong. You're each entitled to your opinions. Not everything has a "right or wrong" answer.

Pete has a way of stating his opinion that is extremely forceful and final, like he's not listening to the other side at all. He says people are free to disagree with him but his tone says otherwise. I've seen it shut down roundtable discussions on the podcast. It's that tone that offends me, and the notion that I am basing everything about SeaWorld on blackfish. I'm not. Given that I like Pete and agree with him on virtually everything else, it frustrates me. It's hard for me to accept him as a Sea World apologist and makes me think he really hasn't researched what Sea World as a corporation has done to silence their critics. It's pretty evil.

What I'm saying is that everyone is entitled to their opinion, yes. But he needs to stop insulting people with the opposite view by calling them, in essence, stupid.

I very much enjoyed the show - though I do think the fact that it was different and not the "typical" show added to the enjoyment. If this was the format every single week with just Pete then that could get stale over time as well

I think the shows with different hosts have a different vibe and I do think overall I like the Disney World podcast with Pete better than without ... but, for example, if he was on the Universal one it would totally change the vibe of that show. I'm just glad there is so much content coming from the DISunplugged family now - something for everyone

Funny that you say that. I'm catching up on the Universal shows and just listened to some of the Land and Sea series. Pete was on a couple of those and it did totally change the dynamic. It wasn't better or worse but it was absolutely different.

Every show is somewhat different depending on who is in the room that day. Pete is different than Dustin. Julie is different than JeniLynn. Kevin is different than Ryno. There may be combos you come to like better than others. That's perfectly natural. At the end of the day, though, I'd tune in to hear any of them talking about pretty much anything.

Love Pete's rants ...I see them as totally necessary ..He knows that unbiased Disney criticism is a healthy thing, not just for Disney to consider but also for us as consumers. If we just drink the cool aid without pointing out the problems than we lose...Rants are healthy!!

Pete is just the best, no question. Loved every second of the solo show!

I don't think this is a fair assessment especially being that the show has increased its fanbase considerably since it went to the video format.

First of all, I want to say how much I enjoyed the show, and give Pete all the credit in the world for extemporaneously pulling off an hour and twenty minute show where every word was entertaining. I don't want anything that I post below to wrongly color my overall opinion of the show. Great job Pete!

Looking at these two posts together, I can see where both sides are coming from. But disneysteve, I think the subtlety that you might be missing from rmm7e's post is that Pete does come off as suggesting that if one does their homework, they will inevitably and necessarily come out on his side of the argument. You state that each is entitled to their own opinion. But Pete is pretty clear in his assumption that the people on the "other side" of his position must not have done their homework and that if and when they do, they will come around and see the light. I think he is wrong about this.

...which brings me to...

Sea World is a great company which does much good in animal rescue, etc.

Unfortunately, the Sea World debate seems to be locked in to an "all or nothing" binary debate. Everything has to be as black and white as the markings of a killer whale. But why not this? Why can't one take the view that Sea World in 2015 is a great company that does amazing things with animal rescues, amazing things with marine biology research, and does an amazing job at bringing the wonders of our oceans to the public in an educational and beneficial manner...and at the same time hold the view that its insistence on keeping killer whales in captivity is wrong, harmful to the animals, and counterproductive to its overall missions of education and conservation? Can't one think both things? I think one can, because I do. To me, the only black mark on Sea World's record is its confinement of killer whales. I love everything else about what they stand for and what they do.

In his rant, Pete rightfully points out all the good that SW does, and what a great park it is, and how great the people are who work there. I buy in to all of that. BUT, at the same time, I have done my homework on killer whale longevity and dorsal fin behavior, and cannot help but conclude that these huge, intelligent pod-living hunters need to be in the wild and cannot have their habitats replicated in small tanks in Central Florida. SW can replicate the habitat of a clown fish and a sea anemone quite easily. It simply cannot do that with killer whales. So yes, I agree with the portion of your post that I quoted above. I believe it with every fiber of my being. But I also believe with equal fervor that killer whales do not thrive in captivity. There is room to believe both things. And contrary to Pete's rant, I believe that the more homework one does, the more they will come to this conclusion. Now, if he is referring to doing homework on how the Blackfish documentary was a hatchet job of bad journalism, I probably don't disagree with him on that. The more one digs into that, the dirtier that piece seems. But if we are talking about marine biology homework, I promise you that the more one studies this, the more one will realize just how detrimental confinement is to these animals. So I would ask SW to keep doing everything else that it is doing. Just shut down your killer whale shows. That's all.

Very well said, JimmyV!!

I've always gotten the impression that the "do your homework" is in reference to the Blackfish documentary. Unfortunately the topic of SeaWorld has been coming up on the show mainly because of the performance issues that the park(s) have been facing. SeaWorld is now admitting that a portion of these issues are related to the negative press and image problems it is sustaining from "Blackfish". I think the "do your homework" quote is in reference to the fact that SeaWorld ignored the documentary for so long that it just became accepted as unbiased science, when in fact, when you dig a little on Blackfish it seems to be more propaganda and a "hatchett" job than any science or journalism.
