Peter Pan's Flight - Can Someone Explain...

Why does this ride always seem to be so crowded? DH and I ended up skipping it on our most recent trip (not a huge deal since we weren't set on seeing it) and pretty much every time we've gone lately, the lines have been really long. Nearly every other ride that gets extremely lengthy queues I can understand: it's a WDW classic, it has a princess, it's Winnie the Pooh, whatever. I know "Peter Pan" is a classic Disney film and the new "Fairies" property may have helped the popularity of Tinker Bell and her friends and associates. (Though we started noticing this before "Fairies" got off the ground.) But I still just don't get what makes it so ridiculously popular. Maybe it's just because I think it's showing its age and could use some updating. I like the ride well enough and I'll go on it if it's not crowded, but I just can't see waiting over an hour to see it or battling it out for Fastpasses for some late hour of the day. Thoughts?

A lot of it probably has to do with the fact that it is a slow-loading ride, so lines tend to grow.

My family loves it! To us it has classic Disney charm and nostalgia. It also has limited capacity and is a slower loading ride.

It loads slow and has limited pirate ships. So that generates the lengthy waits. Though it is an older ride, it is a classic and a must do for us each trip

As previous posters mention, it's a slow-moving/slow-loading ride that has a fairly low "throughput" of guests, so even a short line is a longish wait.

Because of that, I wouldn't dream of doing PP without a fastpass unless I hit it right after rope drop... which wouldn't be my first choice, anyway. Maybe during EMH, if I were using it, but hitting other rides would still be higher priority.

My kids could ride this over and over again and I think everybody else could too! :lmao:
I think thats why the lines tend to be so long!

It's no big secret that PP is in high demand, and has a lower hourly capacity than many other rides at MK. Same deal with Dumbo, though not quite as extreme.

I agree with the previous posters' answers, but want to add also that everyone can ride it from babes in arms to great-great-grandparents. And many people rode it when they were little, so there's the "nostalgia" factor. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is gone, as are a lot of other rides that were at MK or EPCOT back in the 1980's, for example, so Peter Pan is one of the things that people rode when they were three years old that they can now ride with their own children. It's a "must do" for my family because of this. And it's not quite as, well, annoying (if you will) as It's a Small World. :)

Because it is the greatest ride ever; every Disney trip starts at Peter Pan; for us it is quintessential Disney. It lets you know you have arrived at Disney and sets the tone for the trip. Not to mention, I and the family just love the ride, its charters, the color, the smell (yes, the smell). In addition, it is a ride that the entire family can ride from a small baby to my aging mother.

The lines is probably a by product of the rides popularity and the nature of the load-up. It has a fastpass, in case you and your DH want to ride next time.

Also it is such a unique ride, giving you the illusion that you are flying over London in a pirate ship. You really feel high up in the sky! A true Disney classic. :thumbsup2

My dh and I wondered the same thing. What makes people stand in that kind of a line???? For PP???

One ride with my 4yr old answered that question. He adored it and wanted to ride it again and again. So, we got there early and used FP when necessary.

I agree with the comment that this is a Disney classic. It's also a great attraction for snuggle time with DW. :thumbsup2

We hit this attrction as part of the UG 2-day MK plan, which means we get to PP about an hour after rope drop. We've never had much more than a 10-15 minute wait at that time of day.

I think its always been popular - at least as far back as I can remember, but FP really messed this on up, IMHO. I just don't like FP on continuous loaders. It completely jams up Peter Pan, Buzz - really screwed up HM before they ditched it there.

That is why I love it...plus like others have stated, it is more for the nostalga. My DH could care less, but he will suffer through it and run over and get FPs (if needs be) because he knows that his DDs and DW love this ride....along with every other ride in the MK :goodvibes

What does HM mean?

What does HM mean?

Haunted Mansion.

I :lovestruc Peter Pan! It's just such a classic and definitely very Disney to me! In a way it's in the same category with Dumbo except that most people stop riding Dumbo when they grow up (unless they have kids.) You don't outgrow Peter Pan.

Ditto on the nostalgia factor...honestly I think that's your answer.

For me, it's the first Disney ride I remember riding, and I STILL get that same feeling riding it now as when I did as a kid. Heck, even the smell of the ride when you get into Neverland does it to me.

It really is the nostalgia factor. If someone who has never been to Disney rides PPF they will think it was super lame and a complete waste of time.

However if you rode it as a kid it is a must do, if you have a small child it is also a must do.

PPF is very popular, and is slow moving, those two things make the lines horrendous.

It is one of my favorites and my DD's absolute favorite no Disney trip is complete without several rides on PPF. PPF is magical for us!
