Why has it taken Rose 13 years to admit to this crime? I know he was a great ball player, but I think Selig should tell Rose, if this is all true, that he will have to wait 13 years before he is eligible for the Hall of Fame.

Report: Rose Ready To Admit Betting On Baseball

Admission Called Last Hurdle To Entering Hall Of Fame

A friend of Pete Rose told a newspaper that the hit king is ready to admit that he placed bets on Major League Baseball games, according to a published report.

The report, published Tuesday in Newsday, said Rose has indicated to MLB Commissioner Bud Selig that he is willing to make the admission and apologize for denying it for the past 13 years.

The friend spoke to the newspaper on the condition of anonymity.

The admission and apology could come with a six to eight-month probationary period, according to the anonymous friend. A probation of that length would allow Rose to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004.

I had a giggle last week as the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame has nominated Pete Rose to be inducted this year because he played for the Expos.I am sure this will be just the same as being inducted in the States,LOL.;)

I think he's done his time. He is the best hitter ever and up at the top in many other categories. As a lifelong Tigers fan and sometimes Reds fan (Big Red Machine) I think it's way overdue to get him into the hall. Then maybe we'll finally visit again.

He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame for being the hit leader....
And I think he has more than done his time...

I also believe he belongs in the HOF (and has belonged there for years now), but let's face it -- his own arrogance is partially the reason why he's never been reinstated in baseball.

I find it interesting that Rose gets a pardon and Shoeless Joe never will.

DH always insists they should never let him in. I think he has had enough punishment and they should let him in.

I preferred a posthumous induction at best.

I hated him when he played:rolleyes: .........but he deserves to be in the hall. JMHO

Never made sense to me Pete Rose gambles...gets banned....Darryl Strawberry does drugs over and over and over again, kept coming back.

He deserves to be in the hall for what he did ON the field. Did he bet on baseball? Probably.......With all the drug use steriod use going on plus the many players that break the law and get away with it, what he did doesn't compare to what goes on today in professional sports.

Let him in......he earned it....

Pete Rose should be in Hall Of Fame!!

Am I hearing you all right? He did his time? He deserves it? What a bunch of rubbish. He tarnished the game. He was the manager of a team and he bet against them. Did he not know the rules? Did he not know what the penalty would be? It's often said that if Rose simply admits that he did wrong, he should be pardoned ... but it seems to me that if Rose admits he did wrong, then he should definitely be suspended permanently. Because he certainly knew what he was doing, and he certainly knew what could happen to him.
Rule 21
Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible.

Again he's paid the price? Not even close, if he bet on baseball, the price is supposed to be permanent suspension.
People can't put drug abuse, or steroid use in the same book as a betting on the game. You know some baseball players use steroids, but you still love watching the game. If you knew some players were betting on the game and might be inclined to throw the outcome, would you still love it so much?"
The popularity of professional sports hinges, not on the public's belief that athletes are model citizens -- every day they prove they're not, and yet pro sports endure -- but rather on the notion that anything can happen because both teams are trying to win the game.
He should never EVER be allowed in the Hall of Fame.
