Pete and crew and Disers, tens of thousands of lurkers thank you!

As you can see from my post count versus my joining date, I don't post a lot but enjoy and support the forum and podcast as much as possible. I've never had the time though to spend on the boards enough to be familiar as a member to everyone.

Its a great forum and there is not only the room for all of us but the need as well.

If I knew this would turn into a party, I would have brought snacks.

I'm getting my flashlight and go looking for more lurkers.

I'll be back.......

Kevin, I read "snacks" as "sacks" as in snipe hunting. :lmao:

As long as the snacks are chocolate and you can deliver to my dark closet, I'd like to tag along! :rotfl2:

Flashlight = Long, cylindrical object used for holding dead batteries prior to their disposal.

I have been lurking around these boards for a litte over a year now. We went to Disney World as a kid and then my wife and I went down in January of '08 and I have been obsessed since then. We have made 3 trips since them with 3 more planned before September. My wife wants to know when we are going to go somewhere else, but I do have to say that she has been great in allowing me to follow this as much as I do. Thanks to all of you for helping me get through the months between trips.

We've been listening to the podcasts for just over a year now but am fairly new to posting on the boards (as you can see from my miserable post count :))
Great info on here and got a really helpfull reply to my first post within 5 mins!! outstanding

We will be visiting for the 6th time this year from Scotland so hopefully i will have a bit of knowledge that might be helpful to someone especially anyone visiting Disneyworld from the UK.

I never understood what a Pod cast was until last week. One of the dis'ers and I became email friends and she told me how she was hooked on the pods. Well, I am technically challeneged, in fact, I had an IPod for a year now and finally figured out how to work it and download. So, I became adventurous and listened to the pod cast....I was immediately hooked and spent hours and hours listening to the archives.

My friend and I are going to meet for the first time in May at WDW. We have been emailing each other at least weekly for over a year. I love the Dis, and I hope you never close the boards down. I have learned so much from other dis'ers, and now from the Pods. Although I have been going to WDW 4 times a year since 1990, there is always something to learn.

I also joined the DVC because of the info I learned on the Dis.

You are the BEST and I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all you do, all the time you put into this board and the pod casts.

Blessings,
Susan

Make sure it's a powerful one!

I am surprised my mom hasn't jumped in here. I finally got her to understand how podcasts and ipods go together, so has been listening to loads of Dis Unplugged ones recently!

I am so proud!! :lmao:

This is exactly my story! I would never ever have known enough about Disney to con my husband into buying into DVC if it hadn't been for the Dis and the podcasts and virtually living here in my free time (and there's not much of it!). I could never, ever express my gratitude to everyone (the podcast folks and ALL the folks who share their knowledge and advice every single day). You never know when that little bit of advice may make a huge difference in somebody's first or second trip.

Kevin and Pete - you can't imagine how much it's meant to me that you have taken up for those of us who have to use ECVs. I have a connective tissue disease, and if I didn't rent an ECV at Disney, I guess I'd see just the inside of the resort. I'm so terribly self conscious about using the dang thing at the park because of all the horrible things that people say and the terrible looks that I get, but this year, I'm gonna' do my best to try to ignore all that, put my lime green mickey head on it, and have a good time!

Ok, enough rambling...oh, and Happy Birthday, Skip!

Do people actually make rude comments etc when you are in an ECV? It would never have occurred to me in all my 59 years to do that. And since I had bilateral knee replacements in Nov, I may have to use one on my trip in May. Hummm. Maybe it's because I am an RN and I work with chronically ill peope everyday....I mean someone could look perfectly fine but have MS and not tolerate a lot of activity. And as far as someone being obese, my heart goes out to them. The way I have seen it, the bigger you get the harder it is to move. I just don't know why anyone feels to need to judge someone.

Kevin and Pete, you are the BEST!!! Thanks again for all you do.

mostly a lurker here, too. I started listening to the podcast after my first trip to WDW last October (go figure, eh?), and got hooked. The podcasts are a nice way to make the drive home (for anyone in NY/NJ/PA area who can relate, I-80 westbound from 287 to points north & west) less horrible, and I just love listening to the gang. It sounds like they all enjoy the time they spend recording. Thanks for all you do!

Hi:

It's fun to lurk and fun to participate... whatever is your comfort zone. These boards are full of valuable information and great people.

I enjoy the weekly podcast shows… the information and lively cheerful banter the team provides helps lunchtimes go by quickly during the work week.

Thank you to The Podcast Team and all the boards moderators for this valuable service.
Mark

Interestingly, I was an orthopaedic RN some 15 years ago, but I work in pharma research now with my head glued to 2 computer monitors umpteen hours a day. :) And yes, people make rude comments, give me rude looks, etc. all the time at the parks, especially when we're boarding the buses. They say things to each other, but quite loudly, ensuring that I hear them.

But I really don't want to hijack this thread!!! This problem has been discussed to death. The point is that Kevin in particular, and Pete, have been so supportive, and I'm sure that there are many of us who are very grateful for it. :worship::worship::worship:

To all of the ECV and wheelchair users....

Rest assured that this is not something that we will ever stop talking about.

I think most folks that dont live with this on a daily basis are unaware of the small minority of people that make this so uncomfortable.

I think that the more people that are made aware of this....the more we will have people who will turn to these vocal idiots and ask "do you even hear the crap coming out of your mouth?"

The vast majority of folks are friendly, understanding and accommodating.

As I said.....we wont stop addressing this issue.

I'm a lurker! sort of. i post here and there, but i gotta admit to my feelings of intimidation.....

about the ECVs. I have to admit, I do believe some people use them because they "think" they're easier.

but I seriously doubt the number is all that big that you can look at someone and just because you can't what the disability is means they don't actually have one.

I've been to disneyland with two elderly relatives and a young cousin who was in a leg cast, and yeah, it can be helpful. but it's not a walk in the park for either person.

I once spent the day at Disneyland with a good friend. we are both in our early 20s and we look about 15. she had hurt her ankle on high heels the night before. she could hobble, but certainly not all day, so we rented her a wheelchair. she had her brace on and jeans, so you couldn't see it. and you should have seen the looks we got from some people. and we are the last two people who would try to get ahead in line that way.

you honestly never know, and no one really has to explain why they might require assistance.
