Anyone use their DVC points to trade into a timeshare that allows a small dog?

We travel with our dog a lot but have not traded yet into a timeshare. We have stayed at Lutsen Sea Villa condos and quite a few cabins and hotels in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana and Wisconsin.

Good luck - it's hard to find accomodations but we feel it's worth the hunt as our dog is a member of our family and she loves travelling as much as we do!

Thanks, from a fellow BWV/Minnesota resident and dog lover! We made the mistake of not getting our Westie accustomed to staying in a kennel when he was young. Now he's old and set in his ways (like DH and I) and he is a wreck with anyone except Gramma. She is 85 and I hate to ask her to dog sit if there is an alternative.

A search of II in general yielded 121 resorts including essentially all DVC resorts. Obviously that is not correct so the number must be a lot smaller. A search of DVC's II page yielded only 21, one of which I know does not and most of the rest are over seas. The timeshare beat listing is likely far more accurate. Bottom line is there are very few that will and even fewer worth staying at.

Jean, I know how set in their ways dogs can get - especially Westies (my neighbor had one and he was very set in his ways )

We've never put our current dog in a kennel either. We had a previous dog and put him in a kennel when he was young - came home with fleas, kennel cough (they have a vaccine now), an ear infection and definitely anxiety. We drive our dog 3 hours north to stay with in-laws so it adds another 2 days to any trip. The joys of dog ownership but I wouldn't trade her for the world.

Jean, maybe you can bring the Westie out here to cavort with the Airedales while you're gone! I usually keep smaller dogs like that in the house instead of the kennel.

I love airedales. Our little Duffy is a wreck when he is left with anyone but my DH or Gramma. Even I don't count in his book. If DH goes to the store he paces and cries until he gets home, even if I am here. Somehow he has been accustomed to my mom's place and is okay. We bring him there even if we are just going to dinner. We obviously raised this dog all wrong but it is hard undoing things now that he is 12 years old. Once my mom is unable to care for him, DH says he is willing to give up all trips that can't include Duffy. He is fine with me going to WDW or any other place with friends. We have found places in Door County Wisconsin which will accept Duffy (we love it there) and I am just starting to research other areas where we could drive. What a fine mess we have gotten ourselves into!

Celebration world resort - which you can get on skyauction - this is RCI

and

Summerfield Condo resort which is II - but it is much further away than CWR.

I have been very irrating with some companies - County Inn, Amerisuites and Laquinta all allow pets in their room - but their timeshare Calypos Cay Vacation does not.

most of the Silverleaf's allow pets -but they are generally RCI.

there are very few in II that allows pets - some say they do - but they either have a kennel or will refer you to a kennel. (like WDW does).

so either go buy a cheap RCI timeshares or just start using
www.skyauction.com

some of the houses in Disney world area allow pets. if you ever decide to stay at one of these you can easily rent your points.

The good thing is that he wont be around that many years yet. It's unusual for a Westie to have speration anxiety like that, but it's possible for any dog to get that way.

any LaQuinta will allow pets - someone say there are some on concierge collection.

Of course, you are doing all that you can... don't you be hard on yourselves either! We didn't raise Buster, he's a stray that we rescued, but he's attached to me. He has chewed his way out of crates (bloodied paws), and 3 windows. Lucky for us, he likes going to a kennel I guess because he spent about 9 months in the humane shelter, he likes being with other animals. He's even gotten out of his particular kennel to follow John the owner around as he does his daily chores. I am grateful that we have found a kennel whose owner understands. We do have another dog, Emma,(a black lab) but Emma doesn't seem to "count" in Busters order of things. Poor Emma.

Have you read "Marley and Me" the absolute best dog book that's come out in a long while? Read it, it puts things in perspective!

I just received "Marley and Me" as a Christmas present... reading it for the book club I'm in. One of the members loved the book so much she recommended it and is reading it again. She isn't even a big dog lover! I'm going to start it this week.

Our Springer Spaniel has some separation anxiety, too. If my DH doesn't come home from work at a certain time she starts whining. She likes me but LOVES him and I'm the one who takes care or her most of the time!

Good luck Jean... there are a few places in Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota that take dogs that we have been to... they're just not condos - mostly cabins or hotels. Have you been to Lutsen Sea Villas? They take dogs and we really like it there. Where do you go in Door County that takes dogs? We went pre-dog - the good old days

Julie's in Fish Creek takes dogs as do some cabins in Sister Bay (can't think of the name). We have a deal with the owner of Cedar Court in Fish Creek. It is a no-pet place but because we have gone there so many years and Duffy is small they let us stay in one really nice condo that they own. We'll have to check out Lutsen. It would be a quick get-away for us. We really need a condo with a kitchen because we would never leave Duffy in a room to go to a restaurant.

The information Pat gave about La Quinta is correct. We often stay at La Quinta Inns when we go to dog shows, because they do allow pets.
