Has anyone ever used the Disney kennel for the family pet? We have a maltese and I'm thinking I may need to take him. I would like an opinion on their kennel. Is it clean, is the staff friendly and loving to the animals, how often do we get to see our dog, etc? Any input is appreciated!

I have never used the boarding facilities at WDW. Probably because I leave him with a neighbor and he has a nice vacation as well. :) Also, the one that takes pets for overnight is at Ft. Wilderness and it would be a major hassle to go there and walk Chewy twice a day and to be there to make hiim feel not abandoned and caged all day.

But, here is some info I found on Deb's site.

Note that fellow Fort Wilderness guests have recently reported that Disney has cut the size of the Fort Wilderness kennel in half, so finding boarding space there for your pet may be more difficult. There are kennels elsewhere on Disney property if you can't get your pet in the Fort Wilderness kennel. The overnight fee (including dry food) for WDW resort guests is $9. Guests are encouraged to walk their pets at least twice per day as they are not otherwise let out of their cages. Proof that the animal has had all of its shots is also required. For guest comments on the kennel click here.

Actually unless they have changed in the last year, all the kennels take dogs for overnight. However, it is up to the owners to come and walk their dogs at least 3 times a day. Their suggestion is one in the morning close to opening time, once in the middle of the day and then again at night, close to closing (although if you miss it before the staff goes home, you can have security let you in to walk the dog with your paperwork). Before I moved to Kissimmee, my dog was a regular visitor to the Epcot kennel. He stayed there about two to three weekends a month since the person I came to visit is highly allergic to dogs. The staff was very friendly and the kennels are kept extremely neat. You need to bring your own dog food or pay for the kennels brand which is Alpo since they are the sponsors.

Keep in mind that the dogs are not on runs but in the kennels the entire time but the time you walk him. This didn't bother my dog since he was crate trained, but if you have a dog that is use to running free all the time, it might be stressful to be in the kennel all day. You can counter this by going and walking him more than once, but that could cut into your vacation time.

While I do think the kennels at Disney are great (well all but the MGM and it has nothing to do with the staff, just where it is placed), you really need to take your dogs temperament into account.

I just read on the official Disney site that they now have people to walk your dogs for an extra fee!! WE re gonna use this on our next visit inbetween our walking the dog!!:)

I don't have a dog - but a cat -he loves it - he gots lots of attention and comes away spoiled -

anyway yes the price is $9 for overnight for guest for WDW resorts other guest it is $11 - Spicey has always had to have his own food (he only eats cans) - so I didn't know about the food thing - to walk your dog the extra charge is $2.50 per walk. Make sure your dog has all his shots and you have prove - my vet gave me a card with the shot history on it.

Oh yes - walking the dog (I think) is only at Epcot - they put up a special kennel with lights for them to do this.

Epcot, T/T and FW are the only places with enough room to walk any animal. the T/T is right next to the bus stop so it is very noisey.

Thanks for all the replies. We usually leave our dog with my mom, but she hasn't been well, and I'm kinda of not wanting to leave him anyway. I like the fact that we can see him during the day and take him for walks. I think I'm going to check into the Epcot kennel. Anybody have the number? Thanks again!
