I've decided to use gray tees for everyone. Can someone tell me which transfer paper would work best -- the kind for light colored tees or the kind for dark colors? I've only done white tees before, so I'm really not sure which type paper to buy for the design to show up the best. :confused3

Are the shirts light grey or dark grey? If they are light grey, the light paper will work great. If they are dark grey, I'm not sure, but I would guess you need the dark grey. I've used the light paper on light grey shirts before and it looked great.

Christina is right! The dark transfers are very hot under the FL sun. We make our own shirts and DH will not let me use the dark ones "ever again"! A lot of our shirts are gray and they do great with the light color transfers :)

The tees are light grey so I'll use the light colored transfer paper. I had both kinds in my hands yesterday but just wasn't sure which would work best on the grey. I decided the wisest thing to do was come here & post my question so someone could advise me. Thank you both so much..I really appreciate your replies! :wave2: :goodvibes

Where do you get the pictures to transfer from? Thanks

It depends, what do you want on there? I've done pictures before and kids love their own picture on their shirt. But for disney, I'm using clipart from this site http://www.magicalears.com/clipart/ It's the only site I found that lets you enlarge it without making the clipart blurry.

I have a few Disney art software programs for the kids. One of our favorites is Magic Artist - I made a great design for our Animal Kingdom day using that one.

Can someone explain to me how to do this...
step by step? Do you have to have a certain
kind of printer, etc.?

Thanks so much!

Check out this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=747968 I've listed step by step instructions as well as in a later post how to reverse the images. As far as what type of printer, it can't be a laser jet, it will just burn the paper, so it needs to be an ink jet. I've used a deskjet before with little problems.

When all is said and done will I really save money if I am only making 5 shirts? and where is the best place to get the shirts?

I don't necessarily do it to save money as much as personalize our vacation wear just for our family. In a way, it does save me the cost of buying yet another souvenir.

love this idea. I will personalize our trip to the x-mas party in december. thanks for the tip.

I know that I save money, but that's not the only reason I do it. I like to be able to personalize it and design it how I want it. I buy the shirts when they go on sale at Michaels 2/$5. I get the paper in bulk on ebay. I think it was about 7.99 for 100 sheets plus shipping. Much cheaper than buying it locally. So for me, they end up being less than $3 each for a personalized shirt. Heck yeah, that's saving money!

The main reason I do it myself is that I have more design flexibility. Most places you order from have somewhat limited choices in the designs and wording you can use. By doing it myself, I can come up with something that is unique and maybe a bit off the wall. Right now, I'm toying with an idea that involves my family, ::MickeyMo and a piece of cheese!! ;) :teeth:

I think it can save money but I just get a lot of satisfaction seeing the finished product and knowing I made it...and, it's fun to do! ::yes:: :)
