There is a lot of blame flying around here. But where is the personal responsiblilty. People chose to live by the ocean, below sea level in a bowl. And they chose not to evacuate, when many of them could. How many idiots were on the telly joking about riding it out? But it is all the national government job/responsiblity to tidy up. And we are all paying for it.

Blaming the President, or anyone on a national level is just plain ignorance. People need to be thankful for the assistance being give, instead of griping that it is not enough.

Sshh, not the PC thing to say right now. Prepare to be bashed by the high and mighty on the community board.

I would answer, but I just had to bite my tongue off. :guilty:

YOu are right, there are a lot of ignorant people in this country.

Since I see you have 10 posts here, I am just going to chalk you and your ignorant post down to trying to create more *******.

Nice try, but as a poster above said, whatever.

Alot of NO is very very poor. Alot of people are born in NO, grow up in NO, never leave NO, raise a family in NO, because they never have the money to start a life else where.

Boy you are really mean spirited. So many of these people are poor, elderly etc. I think a lot of people chose not to leave because they just didn't have the resources to leave. We certainly spend enough money repairing damage in other countries - did you complain about the money being raised to assist the Tsunami victims also. I pray for these poor people and just thank God it didn't hit my family. I also feel that it is almost a duty of any American who can donate to do so.

You make a valid point, but prepare yourself - yours is not a popular opinion right now. I, too, saw many people admit that they made a decision to ride it out, thinking it would not be anywhere near as disastrous. Yet, even more could not evacuate simply because they had no means to do so (don't own a car). Many were too ill to leave their homes. The people in NO are desperately poor, hence the reluctance to leave what little they had to begin with.

I wonder how many of these personal responsibilty people claim to be good Christians. Oh, I already know a few of them do.

by your logic, we should abandon NO because of potential flooding...Los Angeles because of earth quakes...NYC because of terrorism...Miami because of hurricanes...Chicago because of snow and cold...Hawii because of tsunamis...Phoenix because of the heat...

there's no "safe place" to live on the entire planet, I'm thinking.

a lot of people simply couldn't get out before the storm. others didnt realize what was coming.

all right...some were downright stupid.

but we are a society that takes care of its weakest members. we pride ourselves on being a community. if we don't take care of our own...what are we?

and do you really expect the relief effort to disniguish between those who couldn't get out and those who simply chose not to leave?

People who are uninformed as to who left these areas and who didn't - and the reasoning behind those circumstances are the truly ignorant..

What they said, except Lora who seems to have an issue with christians. Considering the churches are feeding and sheltering, I think that is pretty rude.

As for paying for it, I will survive paying more for a bit. I am just truly thankful to be in a place of giving aid, rather than desperately needing aid.

really he/she is right i mean how many bush bashing threads our there? about 10 i think i mean we need to pull together instead of sayign bush sucks bush this and that and he is doing everthing he can

It's not as simple as you make it out to be.

Many had no means to escape, not everyone has a car.

Many where to old or sick to be able to evacuate, even if they could.

NO has levies, many people thought that would keep them relatively safe

People who were born in NO didn't choose to live there, fate placed them there. Not everyone has the means to move away once they become an adult.

Now, people who could have evacuated but didn't, do they share a bit of the blame? Yes, to a degree. But I'm sure they are kicking themselves right now about staying, they don't need the likes of you to rub it in.

My real question here is what determination was made by state and local officials before the storm hit?

When we are under a Category 5 Hurricane Warning here, those who live on barrier islands, manufactured homes or flood zones have mandatory evacuation. Those who cannot do so for whatever reason are told to contact the local emergency numbers for assistance. They are then picked up from their homes and taken to a Red Cross shelter. The Sheriff's Office then goes through the mandatory evacuation zones and checks door-to-door to make sure everyone knows about the evacuation order. Those who refuse to leave have to give their names and next of kin notification before the deputy can move on to the next residence.

I don't recall if this determination was made in NO. Does NO have an emergency plan like this?

:rolleyes1 TROLL ALERT.....TROLL ALERT....these people need help not a lecture on "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY" if you decide to help, help but save your lecture for yourself.....you never know when fate may deal you a hand where you need help
