I was scheduled for a biopsy today. They will take samples of the tissue inside my uterus with little pinchers. Some kind of local anesthetic will be used. However, I started by cycle this morning, so I called to cancel the appointment. To my surprise, the doctor said come anyway. Doesn't it seem weird to do this procedure during your cycle? I am so nervous about this. Has anyone else had ******l exams at this time? Please, any reassuring posts would be most reassuring.

Sorry I haven't had this procedure I just wanted to send you some pixie dust and wish you well.

When I had my son, I had my 6 week check up during that time. I wanted to reschedule, but they said they had no problem checking everything out then. It surprised me that they'd do it then.

I haven't had that kind of procedure, so I have no advice. Good luck today. {{hugs}}

I haven't had any experience with that. I wouldn't put it off though, if they say it's ok then you should be fine.

They would be the first to tell you if they didn't want to see you during that time.

Best of luck.

Honey, I have had this procedure many times, and will have to every 6 months ofr the rest of my life until I decide to get a hysterectomy. Can you tell I am fighting it?

Anyway, the biopsy will not be affected by your cycle. It is the tissue that will be tested and worked on. The procedure is pretty uncomfortable and you will cramp, and have bleeding.

You may feel a little more tender during the exam, but it is quick so try to relax and not worry.

PM me when you get home and let me know how it went.
{hugs}

Shannon, I have never heard of a six week exam during that time either, so I guess this might be the same. I am terribly nervous, but glad I don't have to postpone it. It's not a biospsy to check for cancer (although they will do that just as a precaution), it's mostly checking my hormone levels. I'll keep you all posted.

Glo, thanks for the advice. The did say they will numb it a little, but I can take pain very well. I will pm when I'm done, thanks for asking. I just worry it will be very messy. I guess I should stop worrying. My appt is at 2:00 mtn time.

When I went in to have a hysterecomy, guess what I got the day before.......it didn't stop them from doing it anyway.

Hope I'm not too late before you leave. I had an endometrial biopsy when I was having difficulty getting pregnant. It's uncomfortable but not as bad as you're probably thinking. I've heard some people were told to take ibuprophin (motril or advil) in advance and it reduces some of the discomfort.

Afterwards I had spotting for a few days but nothing that bad.

Keep us posted & don't worry too much!!!

:wave:

I have had an endometrial biopsy also... both in the middle and end of my cycle... it will not be that messy... it doesn't take long but it does smart... I took tylenol before it and I think that helped... Good luck! Please give us an update if you feel like it!

I never thought of taking something before for the discomfort. I think I'll take some ibuprofen before I leave. I will leave at 1:30 mountain time. Thanks for all the advice and good thoughts. I'll let you know how it goes.

Good luck, tc!

I've had this done too, when I was going through infertility treatments. I had it done right in the doctor's office. I could feel it, but it wasn't what I'd call painful. Just some cramping. Like the others have said, take Advil or Motrin and you should be fine. Having your period shouldn't matter, it's the tissue itself that they will test.

Let us know how it went!!

I had a biopsy about three weeks ago as well as several years ago. I had no discomfort with either so I guess everyone is different.

I have had these biopsies often, you feel a bit of cramping that's all and as for the 'other' issue...it's not a problem at all for the Dr or you...just a bit messier! I've even had ultrasounds (the internal kind lol) during my cycle! Yech! But it's old hat to the professionals!:D

Thanks everyone for your comments. I am so much more at ease than I was at 8:00 this morning. :D

You will do fine!! Let us know how it went, and it is a good idea to do the ibuprophen first it sure can't hurt, right?

Hugs

tc, as I see by the time you're probably already finished with your appointment. I have had it done before during my cycle with no problems. I agree with the others regarding the pain meds. My doctor recommended ibuprofen, which seems to work. It's really only a slight pinching, but the meds take the edge off. good luck

I am sure that by now all is over with. It has been a while, but I was once told that doctors can sometimes detect things at this time that won't show up at other times. Hope that all went well. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

I know I'm too late, but I hope all went well. Remember, tylenol & advil can help. (As can just lying back and relaxing and taking time for yourself!)
