Are you allowed to have battery operated 'things' such as personal dvd players and childrens games on board to use during the flight. I thought you were but when looking at the dvd players in a well known store the salesperson said you were not allowed to use them and it made me have my doubts.

I believe that you can - just not on take off or landing :sunny:

Fine to sue except as Alison says on taxi, take off and landing :) VA even use them sometimes when people's tv screens break down they have a few to lend out.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought is was ok to use except for take off and landing. I wanted to get some DVD players just in case VA's were not working as I've read on here that they often do fail.

Once someone puts doubt in my mind it's hard to get rid of. :rolleyes2

We also found by taking the tv link cable with the red, yellow and white pins we were able to connect to the US tv's, esp at WDW and played our DVD onto the TV!! Most DVD players are multi region these days so that helps as well :) Must say the DVD players are very useful not just for the flight but in the airport as well.

We flew with Virgin last year and had to borrow one of their DVDs as the seat one wasn't working :sunny:

The IFE with VA is liable to breakdown so if you have a portable DVD - take it.
