We are going in early August to WDW and my mother (who is 65) is worried about the heat. I was going to suggest a personal cooling device to her like a fan or the neck device from Sharper Image. Does anyone have any suggestions or reviews of personal cooling products?

Many thanks!

I have the fan and water mister that they sll i th parks mine is old I pd 12 I think anyway I fill it with melty Ice water an spray myself and fan myself when ever i feel hot or even when ever I am not moving etc! i have no experience with the other kind that u mentioned! I also bring a cheap washcloth make it wet and freezet overnight as i warms up I use it to wipe my neck and face with it it does help!!

The washcloth idea is a good one. Thanks!

for me, it's Cool Offs (they're moistened towelettes that "cool" the skin - look on Amazon) combined with this tiny battery fan (from Solutions)

together, i'm good in the heat!

DH and i have been remodelling a house we'll be moving into - it's still in the "exposed beam" stage - but those Cool Offs saved me from meltdown while in the HOT HOT HOT attic helping to run wires recently - put a thermometer up there, it was 120 degrees 2 weekends ago!!!

oh- and a little spray bottle of water to "mist" makes it even better!

We have the cooling/mist fan and the bandanas with the beads. Both are okay, but the cooling/mist fan combined with a frogg togg is unbeatable. We bought our frogg togg at Dick's sporting goods for $14. It looks and feels like a chamois and when you wet it, it gets unbelievably cold! It was too cold for me to put up against my arm or leg (I'm cold natured though), but my husband and sons used it wrapped around their neck and they stayed cool in the 95 degree heat in May. Try it out!!! Have a wonderful trip!

We have used the neck bandanas with the beads before with very good luck. We like to walk through the stores to cool off & ride Universe of Energy at Epcot or Carosel of Progress at Magic Kingdom or Little Mermaid at Hollywood Studios for a nice break from the heat.

I would suggest the Frogg Togg chilly pad (which is like a cold towel, but it stays cold for up 4 hours) and/or a hydration pack, also known as a camel pack. At night I put water in the hydration pack and freeze them, when we head out the next day it keeps us cool without being too cold on our backs and we also have good cold water for drinking. Both items can be purchased at Walmart or Academy Sports.

i have a little battery powered fan that actually has a lot of power.....i have never taken it to WDW but i plan to on my trip coming up on the 24th

We're heading to WDW in two weeks. I'm making neck wraps for my family. Pretty easy -- cut a strip of cotton cloth 5 inches wide by 45 inches long. Put right sides together and sew a seam to make a long tube. Turn right side out again. Sew a seam half way, dividing the tube into halves. Insert about a half teaspoon of water storing crystals (from the gardening center, next to the potting soil). Sew another seam about 4.5 inches from the center seam on each side. Then repeat until you have four compartments with a half teaspoon of crystals in each one. Hem the edges and you're done! Soak the wrap about half an hour in cold water and it will stay cool for hours.

I got one of these fans at Target a couple of years ago and LOVED it! Just bought another one last week, and it was only $3.09 plus tax. I found it in the camping section.

It's much more powerful than most personal fans (certainly better than those little wimpy foam-blade fans). It's nice and compact, and in some ways better than those little mini-mister fans because you don't have to keep filling it with water. Small enough to fit easily into a fanny pack, purse or backpack, and not big and clunky like a big mister fan. I highly recommend them!

I take a hand towel to the parks each day and use the cold water from the bathroom faucets to keep it wet and cold:) Works perfectly..

I recommend those mist-spraying cooling fans. It's a formidable opponent against hot weather. As far as I know, they operate on batteries. You can purchase these at any shop at any theme park. To be safe for your wallet, I would first scope out prices on Amazon.com, Target, or Walmart.

My essential hot weather accessory is a plain cotton bandana. I just get it wet and tie it around my neck loosely. When it feels like it is starting to pick up too much heat, I just take it off, grab it by the opposite corners, give it a few flaps in the air, and retie it on.
The evaporative cooling from waving it in the air really cools it down. When that recooled bandana touches my hot neck, I've been known to give a surprised yelp at how cool it is.
I may try one of the fancy neck coolers cited in this thread, but will still always have a bandana with me - it's a towel, napkin, seat cover, bag for holding "treasures", "I'm over here in the crowd" flag, or whatever I need.

Hahaha the versatile bandana!! too funny :thumbsup2

I will have to check the Frogg Togg things out, it sounds interesting! One thing I have found to really help is Moisture Wicking clothing, when it get's wet from sweat it seems to feel cool. I also use a Right Guard deoderant that is "cooling", it must have some sort of menthol ingridient included because the minute you start sweating it starts to cool.

Other than that, I wear a hat and stay hydrated.
