Perception of DVC and it's members

Since we have 2 very good, yet hot threads going; on the same line, did anyone have a different perception of DVC, the resorts, and it's members BEFORE joining than they do now?

I used to be blown away, in the state of awe, every time we took time out of each trip to simply "view" the boardwalk for an hour or two. I thought only the rich could stay there, and if we ever won the lottery we could stay there too. My view was WAY overblown and I am glad we did the research to realize what a bargain DVC really is. I guess it all seemed relative before knowing the facts. No-where does Disney advertise that if you join DVC that you can stay at deluxe accommodations for the price of the value resorts (comparing a reg room to a studio) when you divide out the cost of dues. That would sound kind of funny but that's really how it is; after initial investment of course.

Anyone else?

I noticed a flyer on the DVC desk at GF last week that had in big letters "SAVE 75% ON ROOMS". I'm sure that draws attention!

I think the mistake some people make is comparing the cost of DVC to what they pay at a moderate resort. The DVC rooms are so much better, especially the 1 bedroom and above. We just came back from an OKW 1 bedroom and it really is a home, not a hotel room.

I remember looking through the brochures and seeing the Boardwalk Inn and Villas and thinking, "Gee, that looks really nice but there's no way I'd pay that per night." I'd only been to WDW once, and the Boardwalk wasn't there. I loved the Yacht and Beach Club, however, and wanted to stay there "someday". I perceived DVC as being "way out there" and far too expensive to consider.

I found these boards after talking to a neighbor who was DVC, and started doing some research. DH wasn't interested, however, until we went in October and saw the BWV for ourselves. We loved it, and bought. I'm not sure I would have wanted to so badly if I still lived in Oklahoma instead of North Carolina, simply because it's harder to get there (no direct flights). Living in Raleigh, both Delta and Midway, maybe Southwest(?) have direct flights; it's less than an hour and a half, and we can be there. It's just so easy now!

After having stayed at BWV in January, I have no more desire for the Y&BC. We love it there, the location, the theming, the action, everything! The villas are beautiful and we're very happy that's the kind of place we can "afford" to stay in now. I think it's one of the most interesting areas of WDW.
