The circus is in town this weekend and I thought it would be a fun thing to do with DH's 3 sibs and their kids. One sis said no thanks right off and that was fine. Other sis said yes and brother and his 4 year old said yes. So I bought the tickets over a month ago. (DH & I and the two kids go every year and really enjoy it)

Couple days ago sis calls and doesn't think she can make it. Then brother calls and says he can't make it because he is going somewhere else this weekend.

What is up with people?????? You committed to the event so I bought the tickets! So here I am with two, maybe 3 extra tickets. Of course DH said no when they offered to pay (and I am sure they knew he would do that) but he is mad also.

So I have learned my lesson - next time everyone buys their own tickets!!! :(

On the positive side, at least they called.

I have one sister who would always, always, always say she was going and would then not show up. No phone call. Nothing. Just one example of why I don't deal with my extended "family" any more.

That irks me too.

Is there a local childrens charity you could donate them too?

That is the policy I've had in effect for a long time. I will buy the tickets but the cash comes in advance!

I have been burnt too many times by my siblings and will not purchase things in advance anymore! I hope you have fun anyhow, I had thought about going but we have the dance recital tomorrow...

I have a friend (not you, Cookie, but you know who it is) that's done that. I finally told her to either pay me for the ticket the minute I buy it or don't expect me to buy tickets for her.

We have a "friend" that is the king of pipe dreams.

He has already sucked one friend into co-owning a pizzeria, and when it didn't fly, left the poor guy holding the bag.

He also sucked a bunch of friends into a long-distance phone business, that didn't pan out, and you can guess who the first one out was.

Now he's sucking my broke BIL into buying up junk property and re-selling it. You can just imagine how that "commitment" will turn out.

So sorry they flaked out on you!

But a good reminder for me, I'll be asking for payment for Wicked tickets I bought for some family members when I see them this weekend (and our show is not until Sept)

I can absolutely see the same thing happening. Best to make them financially responsible for their own tickets way early in the game. Thanks!

Oh man there's a girl I work with who I have made plans to see a movie with three times. Every time I show up and she calls me five minutes before the movie to cancel.

Not worth my time! I can't deal with people like that. Don't make plans you can't keep! Get a day planner or something.

If you're both mad, why did you turn down their offer to pay? Why should you be out the money? If you let them flake and stick you with the bill, where's their incentive to stop?
