I wasn't sure what to title that... haha. Anyways- someone at my dad's work is going to Disney World during Spring Break. I just can't beleive it either, I couldn't talk to the guy because a) They are on the best dining package possible, and just this week started looking for reservations to places. (Spring Break!!!) and b) They had no idea how to get their Magic Express tickets, or that they were even supposed ot have them until my dad pointed them out.
The first one really drives me crazy. So they can eat wherever they want, and they wont even be able to! He said today they tried to get into the Crystal Palace, but they only had a time open at 9 at night. Why do people do that? Do they automatically think that a week before vacation they should start making reservations? I mean, its Spring Break! One of the busiest weeks at WDW. We always call right on the first day possible (90 days ahead of schedule) to meake reservations.

Anyone else know people who are just horrible at planning Disney vacations like that?

Yes. That annoys me, too.

It just upsets me when people book a hotel room and buy park tickets and think they're done..... planning is necessary! Then, they arrive at the World and have no idea what to do or how to do it and get frustrated and think that Disney is crowded (well, it usually is) and overrated and not worth their time.... when if only they had done their research and planned, they could've had an amazing vacation and caught the Disney bug.

People!!!! :sad2:

Well, in their defense, I do that. I don't plan my days accordingly, and I make very few reservations. If we make reservations, it is ALWAYS Chef Mickeys for breakfast. Other than that, I just eat as I go. I don't get hungry much, so when I do I just get a snack or something from CS. Or Room Service. Or stuff from the resorts (love love love Picabu!) I don't plan what I do in the parks either - I go with the flow.

Well, I was speaking in terms of first-timers, mainly. And people on the Dining Plan, especially. (This person has three dining credits a day and no reservations!!!)

I'll admit - my past two Disney trips, I made ADRs the day before we departed, and on the drive down (as well as at WDW).... but one of those was a last-minute vacation (and I still ended up with good adrs...:) ).

As for what I do in the parks, I never plan. But I know when it's a good time to do a certain thing. I know what to fastpass and what to stand-by, and when I can stand-by an attraction that typically needs a fastpass. I never waste any time looking at a park map (save that for when I'm bored in line). That kind of knowledge is what's essential to a "successful" Disney vacation. If people would just read a little (or learn from experience), they could have a much better time at WDW.

Some people are planners. Some people aren't.
It's as simple as that. My family are planners, so we know what we're doing on a vacation before we go.

My friends though? Their parents book a pool home and get plane tickets. That's it. They might go to Disney. They might go to Seaworld. They might go to Universal. Or they might just sit around the pool all week in the sun.
It's up to a person how they want to do their vacation.
I'll agree with dining package is a waste if you're not going to have reservations. They shouldn't have bothered, you don't need to eat a sit down meal everyday to enjoy Disney. I ate McDonalds almost everyday (lol that's gross I know) and had the best time of my life.

I agree that some are planners and some aren't, but I really think Disney should do a better job of warning people when they purchase the dining plan. When the dining plan is purchased, they should say, "We STRONGLY recommend that you make reservations 90 days in advance or you may not be able to utilize your plan." Then, if people choose not to do that, it's their own fault. I have obsessive planning disorder, so this is not a problem for me, but for first timers who don't know better, they deserve a warning when spending that much money!

i was checking in with my mom at AKL one night, the week before CHRISTMAS. the guy in front of us hadn't made reservations. there were NO rooms open. and i don't mean no rooms at AKL, i mean no rooms on disney. and he started getting pissed with the poor cm. the guy was trying to tell him to wait a day, and one room would open for a few days, and the guy was like, "THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. THANKS FOR RUINING MY VACATION."

so i loudly started talking to my mom about how glad i am we made reservations almost a year ago, because this is the busiest week at disney and youc an't get into anywhere without reservations. ;)

Yeah, its amazing how i can know alot of people who are complete opposites. So some people who we talk to who are going on their trips are like "What? They have a fireworks show at Magic Kingdom?" (true, we have met someone like that..) and then there's my mom, who plans which parks we go to and when to get in the most times with early magic hours and late hours and stuff, and then there are people who plan exactly when they will go on rides, when bathroom breaks are, and then laminate their schedules... yes, i knew a person who did that too. They are not related to me lol. I dont think she took the schedule seriously though, maybe more of a joke, thankfully... :rotfl:

Well, it just bothers me when people blame Disney for something they could've prevented if only they'd done a little homework.
