People that live in orlando

Either one, they work for or have worked for at least one of the major theme parks, or never even been to one. And if they're older, haven't gone since they were a kid.

I don't know how many people I've talked to that said that they've never even been to disney and have lived here for years.
All I can think about are the amount of people that refinance thier house (ok maybe not, but just about) to come here once a year, and they live here and don't even take the time to go to it.

Many of the kids my DD went to high school with last year had never been to WDW theme parks. More had been to Universal, but even those had not been more than once or twice.

It really isn't that surprising to me. The percentage of people in this country that have never been to WDW far outweighs the number that have. Many people are just not interested and there are many more who either can't afford it or would rather spend their money elsewhere. That is true of the locals in the Orlando area.

Pretty much like me living in NY without EVER going to the Empire State Bldg or the Statue of Liberty.... it was for the "tourists".

In fact I never would've visited either one except for the fact that I had a job interview at the first and my aunt graduated at Liberty Island!

FYI, I've never visited the tourist attractions here in Atlanta, either....

I guess too busy making a living.

Many of the people that live in Orlando WORK for the house of the mouse and don't want to be there on the days off.
A few years ago, my next door neighbor at the time had never taken her 2 kids to the parks When we were going one day, we offered to take her son with us (the other was at camp) and she turned us down saying that she didn't want her kids to get exposed to it "over there"
Whatever.

We moved to another neighborhood a year and a half later

My mom was surprised when she moved there that so many could care less about the parks. For them, it was too expensive to take their family and was a tourist trap.

She is a CM and had free passes from something she didn't need so for XMas, she gave 5 of them to her hairdresser so she could take her whole family. The lady couldn't afford admission for 5 so they never went. They had a blast, btw.

I think it's the same as the rest of us - we rarely 'play tourist' in our own city.

DH is made fun of at work for visiting EPCOT on a regular basis. The guys are always asking if he's on his way to "play with Mickey" on his days off. He tells them, "No, I'm on my way to dine under the stars while watching a volcano puff smoke and hear it rumble. Afterward, I cruise down a river into Mexico, stroll around the World Showcase and shop, stop for "brew" wherever it strikes my fancy, go "soarin", ride a golfball back in time, take in the beautiful views and cap the night off with an amazing fireworks display. I never actually see Mickey or his friends." Many of these co-workers have never been (or not since childhood) to WDW and can't be convinced that it's any more than playing with cartoon characters.

I live in Orlando and work for the mouse. I like going to the parks on my days off if I don't have schoolwork to do. Its so fun and I know how lucky I am to be able to go when I want.

I am lucky enough that many of my neighbors work for Disney. I am lucky that with my job I do a lot of traveling. I get to check out tourist areas in many cities every year. I am sure there are lots of folks in every city that haven't checked out some of the attractions in their city.

The Disney company is not very popular among a large portion of the Central Florida population. Even more so now that so many folks move down to Florida just to be near WDW. The could contribute to the numbers of locals that don't go to WDW.
