People from Toronto

In the "olden" days the farmers that lived outside of Toronto (in the "burgs" now) use to refer to Toronto as the "Big Smoke"

It is not a reference used exclusively for Toronto. It is, in fact, used to refer to any city.

Thank you everyone so much for your help so far. On Sunday evening, we will get to hear all the details of the location of the office, so I will be sure to ask more questions then. I am really nervous about moving, but very excited at the same time. I am scared about leaving my family, especially my elderly grandmother that I know won't be around much longer, but I still am very trusting of my fiance and the opportunity. I will be asking many questions, and PM'ing some of you, if you don't mind.

Thanks again...and yes, we will have to have a DIS meet when I get down there. I've never had the opportunity to go to one...we don't have the same DIS population over in Edmonton!

Welcome to the Toronto area. I think you'll like being here. By the way it's mandatory to change your allegiances from the Oilers to the Leafs there's some sort of document you need to sign when you get to the border. I've lived in all four corners of the GTA plus the Downtown core they all offer a different experience so before making any decision you should explore as many areas as possible, time and budget allowing of course. Definately having a DIS meet would be a great way to meet the other Disney fans in the area and get the information you need. I know what you mean about the 401 especially this year with the potholes all over the city it can be scary at times. Driving in Toronto you need to learn patience and have some good podcasts to pass the time. Keep us posted.

Well, here's what we have so far....the politics of opening up an office in toronto have been, well, for the most part, extremely difficult. The rights to the province was given to this guy whom the company doesn't trust, and doesn't want him to open any offices there....hence the reason why we haven't really been given any information. They have to deal with him before my fiances boss (who wants to override the other guys rights) could move forward and release any information to us.

Last night, we found out that most likely it will be in the GTA (no idea where yet) or Windsor (I don't even know where this is). So, as before when I find out more, I will let you know. Apparently, and I'm not holding my breath, we may find out more information by the end of next week. So, when the time comes I will be posting many, many questions.

Thanks everyone in advance....:)

Windsor is on the southern-most tip of Ontario, bordering Detroit. It's about a 4-hour drive from Toronto. ... a whole other research area for you :)

Windsor, that's a really different city that T.O.
Much cheaper housing, no traffic and local news from burnt out Detroit every night. 30 minutes to the Detroit airport would be a plus too.

Windsor is on the right.

one poster asked what my specialty was....Sorry, for some reason I thought I mentioned it, but reread my post and realized that I hadn't.

I'm an RN, have worked in Peds and am now working towards my OHN certificate. I really don't want to go back to working in a hospital...I'm trying to get away from that due to a back injury. I am hoping to work more in the industrial world with my degree. If anyone is a nurse from Ontario, I really have a ton of questions (especially about licensing!?!?!?)

Thanks everyone....by the end of the week, we'll know more about locations and I will have WAY more questions at that point.

I know RBC Insurance hires nurses. I've spoken to one that loves it there

windsor area housing market is in the tank right now so you'll find something very nice there in housing
