Pens for autograph books

I'm trying to figure out a way to attach pens to the autograph books. Sometime back I saw some pens with a corded rope attached to the top that I thought would work well. Of course I can't find any now. Any one have any ideas or suggestions?

The Disney autograph book that I purchased in July had an elastic band that was attached. If you have a book other than the Disney one you could probably use velcro (the kind with the adhesive on the back).

Did you get it at the parks? Is the elastic band on the outside? Sounds like that would work. Thanks!

Yes. The band was attached to the inside flap. It holds the pen on top of the book.

Do you recall if the books at the parks have different covers? I think I've seen Princess covers before but I'd also like something different for my nephew. Thanks for your help.

Here are the autograph books I have seen in the parks so far:

- Disney Princesses (pink)
- Tinkerbell
- Pirates of the Caribbean (I think it has a compass in the middle?)
- Sorcerer Mickey with more pictures around him (red)

You want a "FAT" barreled pen. This allows the character to hold the pen firmly while writing. We always used a Sharpe for autographs.

Totally agree! Sharpie's are GREAT for getting character autographs - esp. the retractable kind so you don't have to deal with the pen cap lid!

I know this isn't what you were asking but I wanted to throw in there that my mom got my girls these HUGE, and I mean huge pens from Ollie's, they were $1 a piece and they are literally the size of a half dollar! I had a hard time writin with it, so we are actually going to bring a few others in different sizes to see what's easier for the characters... I am just going to use ribbon and tie them onto my DDs clipboards.

I have a black fat sharpie but it is not retactable...

I bought the retractible sharpies for our upcoming trip in October. Last year I bought one of the autograph books in Disney and a regular retractible pen and while not having to deal with a cap was a plus it looked like some of the characters struggled a bit with the pen. I figured a regular sharpie is thicker than a normal pen so I grabbed the retractible ones...the big package with tons of colors. I made my son's book this year and used a little binder so I can tuck a couple sharpies into the book and just keep the rest in a container in the stroller bag. I didn't think about attaching the pen since he's young and I'm still in charge of the book but if you needed to attach a pen/sharpie you could probably glue a piece of ribbon inside the front cover and then tie the pen/sharpie on the ribbon. I might add ribbon to the loops in the book I made and attach a couple pens but I haven't decided yet.

I haven't seen fat retractable sharpie pens yet, just regular-sized retractable sharpies. And regular sharpies are fine for the characters to sign with.

I picked up some very fat, retractable "Evermark" pens at Target 75% off with the school supplies. The only issue is that they have a "chisel" tip which I think should be OK.

I saw those today and was wondering if they would work. I guess I need to run back to Target (like I needed an excuse!). What do you mean by a "chisel tip" ?

A chisel tip is a slanted rectangular shape so you get fat and skinny lines according to the angle. I think they should work and for $1.48 for 6 of them, definetly worth a try.
