Do you remember buying penny candy from the glass case as a young kid. You picked out what you wanted and they put it in a small brown paper bag! Those were the days :goodvibes

I do! I also remember that is actually cost a penny or less. In some cases the candy was 2/1 penny or even 3/1 penny.

I loved Swedish Fish, Fireballs, Root Beer Barrels, Mexican Hats and Tootsie Rolls.

I can remember going to the store with a quarter and buying a comic book for 15 cents and ten pieces of candy.

The funny thing is I still go to that same store.

I remember getting 100 Swedish fish for a $1, and those cherry balls. The last time I saw penny candy was 18 years ago! Those were the days! Also, I remember getting the Tastykake lemon pies 2 for $1 or 3 for $1... Now they're $1.59 each!

When I was a child my parents had six kids so we didn't have big money to spend on activities. One of our favorite things to do, though, was take a ride down by the ocean and stop for penny candy. That was a huge treat! There were two ride routes and each had a penny candy store - Joel's Penny Candy House in Hull or there was a store in Green Harbor (I forget the name) that had a large penny candy selection. Those are some of my fondest memories. :)

Oh yes, I remember! When I was a kid we lived one black from Hanner's Magazine Store, run by a very sweet elderly couple. I spent most of my allowance money in that store, on comic books and candy. :)

There is a store in Frankenmuth called Rau's Country Store, and they have a huge candy section. Everything is in barrels and you can put as much as you want of any kind in a plastic bag and they charge by the pound. Of course it's not a penny a piece anymore though, darn it! :rotfl:

But once or twice a year we make it over there and I always bring home a big bag of candy. :goodvibes

Penny candy is one of my favorite childhood memories. I wish I had a picture of that glass case full of penny candy. We have a big candy store very close to our house that carries almost all of the old penny candy. It is so much fun walking down memory lane there. Of course, by the time I am done I have spent way more than ten cents. My favorites were the coconut rainbow slices, the coconut watermelon slices and flying saucers.:thumbsup2

Are those the flying saucer candies with the bead candy in them? My sister and I used to pretend they were the host and play communion with them. :rotfl: Those were a favorite of mine.

I went to school in England, and my high school had a 'tuck shop' - it was a little shop run by the older students in one of the art buildings. I remember the penny sweets - things like flying saucers, fried eggs etc. I also remember tongue painter lollipops being 10p - tough choice between one of those or 10 flying saucers!
