Pencil sharpener on plane?

Can we take a pencil shapener in our hand luggage? I remember one year having to remove them and put them in our cases. Have the rules relaxed at all?

I don't think they are allowed as have a blade that can be easily removed.

I take those mechanical clutch pencils and felt tips for DD to draw and colour in. Crayola also make twistable colour pencils which are great for travelling.

Its funny because my daughter was asking me about the same thing this week. I said put one in your pencil case but be prepared for them to take it off you if they see it and object, is that bad ? She doesnt have any intention of using it for anything other than sharpening pencils honestly !

I would rather get some twistables or something. It really isn't worth the hassle.
