This is very helpful... my immediate response, though, is "Holy Crap! Didn't they used to have some cheap ones?"

In any case, this is a great thread to link to whenever someone asks about these things (which is practically every other day).

Thanks so much for posting the pictures. Every time we go, there are so many people standing around the counter that you can hardly see. I've done pick-a-pearl twice and would like to do it again in May, 2011.

We never done this, so we pay for $15.99 to pick a pearl. Do you then have to pay for the pearls and the setting?

I only took a few pics but they do have some at about $20-30 but it's sterling silver. We got a dolphin setting for my stepdaughter and it was $29.

$15.99 is for the pearl. Then you need to pay for the setting.

Thank you, so if you get twins that great then.
I think my son would love to do this and then give his grandma a necklace (or I can hold it and let him do this ever Disney trip and save it for his future...keep it in a box and then when he has a wife he can give it to her and the story that he started picking pearl when he was 5 yrs old at Disney)

They do have some cheaper ones. I had one placed in a swirled sterling silver cage and then another mounted on a sterling silver cap thing (can't think of a good way to describe it). Both of these, combined with the price of the pearl, were just under $50.00 each.

Thanks for the info. DW will be busy teaching when my son and I escape to Florida to watch my Dad and Sis run the Half. Planning on this as mom's souvenir for keeping the home fires burning !

Thanks for the photos! I've been wanting to see some. One question. Second photo, top left, middle necklace. Is that a setting for 3 pearls? I hope so because I want each of my kids to pick me a pearl and have it set into something that holds 3. Thanks.

Oh these look great. I can't wait to get my first pearl, well i'm getting two...one for the last time I was there, which was my first time, too! Anyway I want to pick a pearl for each visit every time I go. I'm going to have them put in those cage things to wear as a necklace.

The ring settings are so pretty but I worry about the pearl coming off and losing it.
Thanks for posting this, it makes my wait more exciting!

I noticed when I was there that it's really nice that at least they post the prices before you select yours. At the pick a pearl place by Y&BC, they don't and I ended up with a ring that was much more than we'd planned to pay. So this is a real advantage.

The pick a pearl at Epcot Japan does have better selection on the oysters itself, but I don't think that they have very pretty settings. If you go by the one at the Yacht and Beach club and you buy a setting from there (but you bought the pearl from Japan), they will set the pearl for you. That is how I did it a few years ago. It is the same as the one in DTD. When I got mine, I picked the pearl from Japan, got twins 6 3/4 mm each, and got one set in a ring from Pearl Factory, it was a ring with amethyst gemstones along the side in 14kt white gold.

I'm sure they did, but surely you have seen how the prices for gold and silver have skyrocketed the last few years?

First, Semper Fi from a future Marine Wife! :goodvibes

And, if you take proper care of the pearl, it should not fall off or turn colour. I took my time and watch how they set the pearls, they are very careful about it and they use a glue to hold it in the hole they drill in the pearl. I make sure I don't wash my hands with my pearl ring on. I always take it off doing dishes, washing hands, or anything that I think will damage it.

If the pearl falls out of a setting that you purchased from the Pearl Factory (any location) they will replace it. They told us that when DD picked a pearl. Her pearl actually did fall out about two years later. We brought the setting back to WDW with us (you can mail it to their main office too) and they let her pick another pearl for free and set it back in her setting.

This is great to know, thanks! We'll be at the Dolphin for a few days so we can stop here to have DD and DN's pearls set. It has become a tradition for them to pick a pearl and have it set on our WDW trips.
