Pearl Harbor Day

DS was glued to the Military Channel and History Channel last night. WWII is his favorite subject. His Grandpa was in the Navy at the end of the war along with several great uncles.

That's the same as my ds. He was glued to TCM's documentaries yesterday. Ds is watching a WWII show on the Military History Channel right now.

He thinks about WWII 24/7. Reading, researching, and writing about WWII are his main hobbies. My grandfathers and FIL served in WWII but they are all deceased and it's a shame that my ds didn't have a chance to see if they would want to pass along some war stories. It's sad that soon all of those who served in WWII will be gone. May they never be forgotten.

I was very busy yesterday and did not have time to do a lot. One thing I made sure to do was tell my children about Pearl Harbor. As long as they are around me they will never forget it. I have visited the Arizona Memorial three time. It was very moving to me each time. It was also very aggrivating by the number of Japanese visiting that have no manners or respect.

History is alive. My son's teacher spent a lot of time on Veterans Day this year and my son is a Military Channel nut. I was named for my Uncle who was killed in WWII and my son carries the same name.

So we did some digging and discovered a website dedicated to the ship that my uncle served and died on - the USS Reid. (http://www.ussreid369.org/History.htm).

Friday (Dec 11th) will be the 65th Anniversary of the sinking of the Reid.

God bless those soldiers...I thought quite a few times yesterday about Pearl Harbor.

But I do admit, I was shocked by the lack of new items on the major news networks. Perhaps some covered it on their nightly newscasts (which I rarely watch), but I read news mostly on their websites vs watching the newcasts, and there was VERY little out there about Pearl Harbor.

Sad. :sad2:

I do believe in another life, I was at Pearl Harbor. I have always cried-and I am not usually a cry baby-when I see a documentary.

A few years ago, DD11 and I went to Oahu to visit some friends who were stationed there.

DD and I visited the memorial. I was actually all right not crying, which surprised DD. Anyhow a few members of a American legion sort of thing that came from Arizona and were Native America came out on the launch with us. Well, when our group was lining up to take the launch back, a few of them went to where the memorial wall is and starting chanting.

I almost lost it right there.

Monday I had to work, I wanted to go the the local war museum where they have a ceremony with survivors-which are so dwindling down, but I couldn't.

It was also very aggrivating by the number of Japanese visiting that have no manners or respect.
I find this very hard to believe. In my travels I have found the Japanese people to be extremely polite and respectful.
