Ok - So I am sure to sound crazy here, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Thai peanut sauce, but HATE peanut butter. Just the smell of peanut butter makes me a bit ill. It really is a bit odd :confused3

Well, today I tried yet another peanut sauce recipe which the reviews said 'doesn't taste like PB' and... well, it did! Down the drain it went... and now my Asian salmon tonight is going to be accompanied by Mac and Cheese, instead of the planned "peanut sauce noodles". So, does anyone have a peanut sauce recipe that doesn't taste like PB?

On another note - does anyone know if restaurant bought Peanut sauce (my local Thai restaurant has their peanut sauce on their to-go menu, which I buy on occasion) can be frozen? It just isn't always easy to run to the Thai place every time I want to make peanut noodles or satay.

Have you tried any of the bottled peanut sauces? I know our grocery store has at least two or three different varieties in the Asian foods section.

With the recipe that you just tried, could you figure out what was missing? Maybe adding a little more chile paste or lime juice could have changed the taste to be more to your liking. Or adding some freshly chopped peanuts would make it less like peanut butter.

My grocery store (Wegman's) carries their own brand of bottled peanut sauce...it is really good!!! Check your store- you might find something bottled that you like better.

What if you found a recipe and made it with less peanut butter? Mine is a combination of teriyaki sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and peanut butter (not authentic, obviously, but we like it). You could mix up something and adjust the peanut butter to your taste.

Trader Joe's has a jarred sauce that is really good. It has a nice spice to it and isn't overly peanuty.
