My 3yo grandson has a severe peanut allergy. What would you advise me to check before we leave? Who should I call? And how can I find out about the ingredients in the cookies that are handed out at MVMCP?
Thanks so much,
Salley

In post 3 of the FAQs thread you will find contact info for Brenda Bennet(she has info for food allergies) as well a links to several threads about Disney and food allergies.

Also make sure your airline is peanut free as allergens are recirculated in the airplane thus causing allergies. Peanut oil is only used in a few asian restaurants. And definitely check FAQs as I know there are a good amount of people on this board dealing with peanut allergies. You can search this board for the word "peanut" to see thread by people dealing with peanut allergies.

The cookies (if I had to guess) are probably off-limits. Ask Brenda if there are any alternate treats being handed out to those with allergies. At the MNSSHP the guest services office was handing out special bags of candy for those with peanut allergies.

If the cookies are off-limits and no substitute is available then you can purchase some Divvies brand cookies at the Main Street Bakery. Divvies are peanut/tree nut free (special bakery for those with allergies) - they also have jelly beans and carmel corn. My son loved their cookies. You can also find Divvies stuff at some of the resorts.

Definitely check with Brenda on that and she can email you a list of CS and cart places where things are safe (and unsafe). When you make ADR's tell them then about the allergy and also when you are seated. We do a lot of ADR's because my peanut allergic son is also a type 1 diabetic (I like knowing he has safe food and what time we're eating - LOL!). We have had good luck with CS though - depends on what the child likes to eat. Most things are safe like hot dogs and burgers, chicken fingers, etc. But ALL of the baked goods are off-limits (desserts, cookies, rolls, etc). Hot dog and hamburger buns were safe. We were just there in Oct. - but do not trust anything you might read here in old posts. You should get the latest info from Brenda. Sometimes the ingredients and labeling change.

Good luck!

If he has a really severe peanut allergy, I'd bring handiwipes with you - you'll need to wipe down all surfaces before he touches them, especially the ride vehicle hold bars/restraints, and any tables and benches you sit at. Also, if you rent a stroller there be prepared to clean it off first.

If he is sensitive to the smell of peanuts, ask to seats at the end of a row at the shows. There's less chance of you getting seated next to someone eating a peanut snack, and your grandson can sit at the end of the row, away from as many people as possible.

a very good point!
they do change suppliers at times or the supplier may change ingredients.

My family and I attended MVMCP three years ago with my severely peanut allergic DD, who was 5 years old at the time. If I remember correctly she was able to have the hot chocolate, but not the cookies. In any case, I contacted Brenda Bennett prior to our trip and she was able to provide me with an ingredient listing (along with trace statements) for all the food served at MVMCP. She'll also be able to give you some tips regarding eating in the parks as well as at the resorts during your trip. You'll find that Disney is very aware of food allergies and, in general, is as serious about them as you are.

Have a safe trip!
