Does anyone know if Southwest still allows people with peanut allergies to pre-board? I have done it for years, but when checking their website recently, it didn't state that under their policy about peanut allergies.

It's never been stated under the peanut allergy section of their website.

I've never had a problem pre-boarding. I just get the peanut dust allergy slip with my boarding pass at check-in, they call the gate and the gate agent gives me the blue pre-board pass when i get to the gate.

Virgin America does the same thing. It's not listed on their website either but they have always let me pre-board.

Thank you for the info. Your memory must be better than mine because I thought for sure it mentioned it on their website that's why I questioned the procedure. :lmao:

As I'm sure you know, it is a HUGE help to pre-board to find seats that don't have food remnants and then have the time to wipe everything down with a Clorox wipe before everyone starts to file on the plane.

It may depend on your flight and your situation. We pre board and once there was a man who had to have a peanut free zone that boarded with us. On a different flight there was a woman with her child and she was asking about pre boarding because of his peanut allergy and she was told they could not pre board because they had removed all peanuts from the plane and because non would be served then they could sit anywhere.

Thank you for sharing your experience with me.

I have empathy for that mom and child. That's one sorry reason not allowing them to pre-board. It's done to give us the chance to wipe down the seats, trays to be sure there isn't any peanut butter, etc. there. I've found just that, cleaned the seat but then chose to sit in another area that was cleaner for fear I missed a spot.

I see from your ticker you're heading down very soon. We are too. I hope you have a great vacation.

But as you know, just because they don't serve peanuts, doesn't mean it's a peanut-free flight and I totally support that. But that's why we pre-board, to make the area safe for our children.

I see from your ticker you will be there in 9 days!! We'll be down there shortly, too. I hope you have a great vacation.

please use nonscented wipes as scented ones could be a problem for other passengers. for me that scent could be as bad as the peanuts for your child. please keep that in mind, thank you

Brenle- I thought it was a bad call and I can understand your need to wipe things down. We have to do the same because of immuno issues. I hope that this was a one time thing and not the new norm. Thanks for the well wishes for our trip. When are you going? We will be there from the 12- 16.

Betty- I can't speak for everyone, but when we use wipes we use ones that have very light scents ( such as clorox wipes) because one of my kids has asthma and flares up if exposed to heavy smells.
Sadly, there is never going to be a way to make everyone happy and to protect everyone. Some people will have reactions to smells, others to chemicals, others t germs and allergens.

We will be there next Tuesday! Can't believe it's already here and haven't packed a stitch.

I use both clorox wipes, lemon scent, or regular handwipes. You are right about reactions. Perfume can set me off in a matter of minutes but of course, I've learned to deal with that issue.
