My 7 year old is severely allergic to peanuts/nuts. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to keep her safe. Is there anything I should do before I board or as I board?

notify DCL and make sure they acknowledge it. Your assigned wait staff will let you know that he/she had been notified of it too...just to reassure you.

And they only give snacks in the kid's club when announced (I think at the pj party maybe?) - so check the navigators for the schedule and/or ask the CMs - I would let them know at check-in each time as well - it can't hurt to remind them and you never know if another child might bring in something.

 Peanutgirl, I do know the answer to this question. We are sailing on January 8th and my son is also severly allergic to peanuts. As soon as we made our reservations the woman reassured me that they are used to dealing with this. DCL also faxed me a form which my son's pediatrician filled out and now I have to fax it to them. They also told me that the cast members at the kids club would be made aware of it and that I needed to meet with someone from dining services when we board the ship. We also got a table just for us because my son is so sensitive even the smell could set off anaphalxis. Also, check with your airline because we had to have the doctor write a letter addressed to our airline stating why we needed to bring the epi-pen (which is essentially a syringe) on the airplane.

I have dealt with this for four and a half years now and although it is very dangerous we do feel lucky that we feel we can handle food issues when there are so many other things out there. If you have any questions please feel free to private message me and I will be happy to answer you. Good luck.

Can you leave your child's Epipen in the clubs with a CM. My son is not old enought to self administer. I know they do not eat in the clubs, but like all us allergy food parents know, unexpected comtamination can happen. My son can die in minutes from fruit. I would not have time to get to the club if he had a reaction.

I would like to know about the epi and the kids club also. This is our first cruise and with an epi pen I am always worried.

I would be fairly certain that you would not be allowed to "leave" it at the club, since the club counselors are most likely not trained nor permitted to administer medication. If an attack would happen, I would rest assured that medical staff would immediately be notified and there is a full staff of nurses and an onship doctor who are only a few decks away, and could be there in minutes in an emergancy.

I did not consider the availability of medical persons. I'm sure they know that time is of the essence and would beat feet to the club.

We took our peanut allergic soon on the DCL twice. He was 16 & 17 years old at the time. He is now 21.

So rest assured that they are used to dealing with these types of allergies.

I sent the medical form in and the dining room servers knew of his allergy when we arrived in the dining room. They did a good job of taking care of his food wants and wishes, right down to going out and finding him strawberries and whipped cream when re requested them for dessert even though it was not on the menu.

I ma taking my six year old on the west coast cruise next summer. She has tree nut allergies, but no peanut. We reserved through Dreams Unlimited. How and when do we let Disney know about the issue? thanks.

I hope the counsellors are trained in epi pen use because it has to be given quickly and the medical staff might not get there right away. Does anyone know how the counsellors are trained?

We travelled last February with my allergic nephew and they were wonderful. :D The head waiter came over the first night and reviewed the menu's with us. The only thing they could not gaurantee was teh ice cream, but I beleive it was Edy's, so he was fine. We also did WDW and each restaurant manager came to our table. I think our only concern there was stuffing, but he wouldn't have eaten it anyway

If you have a medical issue will they cook your food away from everyone elses? My DH is alergic to beef, nuts and seafood. When we go to rest. around town they will make sure that items are cooked in a pan not a grill where beef may touch chicken, etc. Is this possible on DCL?

Wed afternoon I ate stir fry and the chef had a separate pan for shellfish allergies that he used. Also we observed one of the cruise staff members speaking to a family the son's allergies (he also wore an medibracelet).

While we were eating lunch at Triton's we observed a medical emergency. Talk about fast arrival. We were not even aware what was going on. They announced something like "Bright Star Bright Star Tritons" We didn't have a clue what it was just thought a test of the system until suddenly people started coming in with equipment. We were actually just getting up to leave the restaurant and parallel to the scene.

Do not worry. Call Disney Cruise Line Notify them of the allergy. You also need to notify your head server on you first dining. I took my severely allergic daugther on the 10.04 magic and we never had an issue. the server was on top of it all.
