My son has PDD; NOS (among other dx's). I have no book recommendations- but pm me if you would like to talk.

Please come over to DisAbilities Board and post there. I really like anything by Stanley Greenspan, personally. He has written several books for kids with autism, and related disorders. Also, although our 5 yr old receives OT services through the school, we also have her receiving private OT services. That alone has brought a remarkable change in her ability to pay attention, and have less frequent tantrums.

There are TONS of materials out there. Check out www.fhautism.com

This will take you to the website for Future Horizons. They publish books by some of the top people in the Autism community.....Temple Grandin, Jed Baker, Carol Kranowitz, Temple Grandin, Carol Grey and others.

They also do AWESOME conferences around the country that are really geared towards parents....as well as professionals of all sorts. I just went to one in Charlotte and the room (1400 people) was probably half full of parents and family members.

Good luck in your search for information.

Linda

I was just over at Amazon looking at their autism books , they have a great selection and helpful reviews.

The Out Of Sync Child, really helped us when we first started down the road of diagnosis. Our son was just 3 and it helped show how he interpreted sensory information. Also The Out Of Sync Child at Play is an AWESOME book for activities you can do to help calm your child and also help with basic OT, ST, PT, etc.

I am looking for some of Temple Grandin's book. She is ASD, but some of her insights might help you as well with seeing how your child interprets sensory information and how to help them cope and process.

HTH!

Please visit us on this thread. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2447340

It is a support group for parents with children on the spectrum. You find loads of advice, or just a shoulder to cry on.

As for the books, there are so many out there. I like "1001 great ideas for teaching and raising children with autism spectrum disorders". I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for though. Another great one is "Realizing the college dream with autism" by Ann Palmer.

I have 2 autistic children, so I know how tough it can be. Feel free to pm me. I'm also on the thread I posted above.:)
