Well...today I did a stupid thing. I fell in the middle of the street and badly sprained my foot and ankle. I wouldn't normally care but......WE LEAVE IN 15 DAYS TO DISNEY!! What to do..what to do! Doc said I "should" be better by then, but considering the pain I am in now.....man I hope he is right. I have crutches and I stink at using them. I really could use some PD from you guys... I hate being in pain! I just want to be able to put some pressure on it. Well..wish me luck!

You can do it!

I tried to avoid my cat on the last stair fell and twisted my ankle coming down. Had to leave for a convention in Chicago in two days. Very painful for a few days to say the least, but choked down a lot of pain relievers. Was difficult to get around but not impossible. You have 15 days, so I think you will do great. Thinking of you. :thumbsup2

Okay, not sure what PD is, but you'll be fine. I had a SEVERE sprain a few years ago. I had to be on crutches about a week, but when I stopped using them the pain was minimal. I wasn't even taking Ibuprofin anymore. Follow what the doctor says about ice/heat/rest, and when you can start using it be sure to carefully give it a range of motion. I had physical therapy for my ankle (ironically BEFORE I sprained it) so I knew the exercises to do to strenghten it. You might be able to google some. Hope that helps!

thanks for the ideas about googling exercises. I hadn't thought of that. I need all the help I can get, I've never done this before( and I hope never again!). PD means PIXIE DUST (wishes, prayers etc)
Thanks again for the help...I need it bad!

Guaranteed to work, the more you ice it, the faster it will heal. What I recommend is taking 3 or so ziplock bags, fill them with ice, crushed ice would be best. If you don't have crushed ice, put water in the bag with the ice so you can mold it to your ankle. Ice your ankle, NO TOWEL just the bag of ice, for 20 minutes every hour or better yet-20 minutes ice/20 minutes off, 20 minutes ice, 20 minutes off--all day. If you can do that, you will feel better in a week or less. After you have iced for 20 minutes, pretend your toe is a pencil and write the alphabet using as big of letters as possible. Do this for about 5 minutes.

Take ibuprofen every 4 hours without fail, even if it doesn't hurt. It has an anti-inflammatory agent and that will help keep the swelling down, which is what is causing the pain. Keep it elevated as much as possible, put a box under your desk to put your foot on at work, etc.

Use it as normally as possible. If you can walk on it, don't limp, walk as normally as possible to help regain your range of motion. Wear supportive shoes, GOOD tennis shoes, no flip flops, slides, crocs (unless they are sandal type with straps).

And if you get to Disney and find you are having difficulty getting around you can always rent a wheelchair. It will make your life much easier and comfortable.

Oh yeah, duh! :teeth: What an obvious acronym...can't believe I missed it.

 I'm trying to walk it off the best I can. Thanks so much for your ideas. This is why I love the DIS. People here can help so much. I will try to ice it as much as possible. Crossing my fingers for luck!!
