Guaranteed to work, the more you ice it, the faster it will heal. What I recommend is taking 3 or so ziplock bags, fill them with ice, crushed ice would be best. If you don't have crushed ice, put water in the bag with the ice so you can mold it to your ankle. Ice your ankle, NO TOWEL just the bag of ice, for 20 minutes every hour or better yet-20 minutes ice/20 minutes off, 20 minutes ice, 20 minutes off--all day. If you can do that, you will feel better in a week or less. After you have iced for 20 minutes, pretend your toe is a pencil and write the alphabet using as big of letters as possible. Do this for about 5 minutes.
Take ibuprofen every 4 hours without fail, even if it doesn't hurt. It has an anti-inflammatory agent and that will help keep the swelling down, which is what is causing the pain. Keep it elevated as much as possible, put a box under your desk to put your foot on at work, etc.
Use it as normally as possible. If you can walk on it, don't limp, walk as normally as possible to help regain your range of motion. Wear supportive shoes, GOOD tennis shoes, no flip flops, slides,
crocs (unless they are sandal type with straps).
