Afternoon all! (well, it is here in the UK)

I'm after some recommendations on decent video editing software for the PC so i can make my home movies a bit more professional - I'm open to suggestions as it's not a field i've dabbled with before!

I'm interested in both video editing and also DVD authoring as i intend to put together menus etc for individual clips as well as full-length features of our holidays etc!

Any and all recommendations are welcome!

Thanks!

Barry

Sony Vegas has three products for beginner, intermediate and advanced. It is one of the more powerful ones, but I have found it to not be that commonly used here on the DIS boards.

But I have it and love it.

I'm a Vegas user and am reasonably happy with it. I don't have much experience with anything else, so I can't compare it to anything.

On the video forums I frequent, it looks like most popular NLE's are Mac only. For the PC, Vegas appears to be the preferred choice. Of course, that comes from people very serious about video editing. There might be much better options for a beginner.

I posted a reply in another similar thread asying the Windows Movie Maker is a very good option, especially given its cost (ie free).

But yes, I love the Sony product. I used to use it (the basic one) when it was called VideoFactory; it's now called Vegas Movies Studio 8. (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/)

I used this to make a movie out of my photographs from a theme park visit last year, it's at http://www.stagepics.co.uk/temp/pdf3.wmv

regards,
