Next April we are taking a DCL cruise which leaves on a Sat (7n.) We are teachers and can't take off the day before a vacation starts, so we will have to fly out Friday late afternoon/evening. Likely we will arrive at MCO 9pm+ unless SWA flight times change quite a bit. Thoughts on the best plan? The last time we rented a car at MCO we waited forever to get out of the garage with the car, which doesn't not seem appealing at 10pm when you have to them drive somewhere. We won't need a car at the port and aren't really planning anything for our return day except getting on the first reasonably timed flight. Suggestions? Ideas? Brilliant plans?

I would stay at a hotel near MCO then the next morning go back to MCO and catch the DCL transfer bus to the port. It's $35 per person each way.

Unless you have more than four people in your travel party. In that case it would be cheaper to hire a car service such as Happy Limo to drive you to the port.

I agree with jbd in az, unless there's something you want a car for, the airport hotels are nice and convenient and the dcl buses will get you to the ship, no problem!

Yeah, coming in that late we would stay at the Hyatt in the airport. If that doesn't fit the budget, there are plenty of other hotels in the airport vicinity that will shuttle you to and from the airport. For us the DCL bus is cheaper than car service so we go with that option. And if you stay at the Hyatt, they pick up your bags right from your room in the morning (as long as you let them know at check-in that you are taking DCL transfers in the morning!)

So, we are in the same situation for an upcoming cruise - have to take a late SW flight getting in Friday around 9 pm. I spent hours researching. We are throwing in the towel and just staying at the airport inside MCO Friday night and catching the disney transport saturday morning (family of 4). I priced out a ton of options - renting a car, staying closer to the port, doing a private car service, uber. In the end, some options were more expensive and the others, even if cheaper, only saves us $50-$150 but were so much less convienent and made me feel nervous. I finally decided I didn't want the stress. In addition, we will have a ton of luggage, so the thought of having Disney handle getting the luggage from the hotel to the ship was really appealing.

Thank you everyone. I guess it'll depend on flight times. Renting a car seems like a waste of effort at this point, but I guess we need to see...I really can't imagine our flight is going to get in any earlier than 8 so it makes sense to stay at the Hyatt, get to sleep, etc!

I've stayed at the hotel in the airport a bunch of times for various random scenarios, and in your situation, it's probably the easiest and most cost-effective thing to do.
